Career in Holography
    #17011785 -

I am looking forward to have a career in holography but I'm unsure of where to start. From what I've read a great deal of math is involved. Mainly light, lasers, and physics. So I'm guessing mathematics is my best bet but for some reason I keep thinking that computers are involved too like programming. I'm not to sure about that but I would really like to work with computers and holography or better known as (CGH) Computer Generated Holography which uses a large amount of computer based skills. 3D gaming kind mostly.

My question is where do I start if I pursue a career in this path.

Thank you.

I assume you have no college education, since you didn't say.

First: don't worry about it.  There's not much you can do untill you get into college.

I'd imagine physics would be the undergrad you'd want to persue, but I don't really know anything about holography.  What I do know is that specialized things like that, especially in nonexistant fields like holographic gaming, aren't something you really need to worry about getting some formal recognition in.  Get a broad education in the relevant fields and figure it out along the way.

I second getting a physics degree. Then take it from there; try to specialize in something light-related, see what opportunities pop up and maybe you'll be lucky.

But there's no roadsign saying "this way for a holography career" anywhere. It doesn't work that way. Applied physics will probably set you off in the general direction though.

Sounds like computer science would be the way to go here.

Computer science isn't always computer programming, but in this case, I'd tend to agree with you... computer science, probably heavy in numerical methods, coupled with physics, probably heavy in optics, and the math required to support the two.

Sounds kind of fun... I did some work with radiosity and ray tracers when I was in college (to learn the technology).  This sounds like something I would have enjoyed, had I known about it at the time.

Alright then I see what I must do, I'll keep my options open and free for the moment. Mathematics is the way to go then again computer science is also an alternative.

It's true I have no education at the moment so a field in this particular schooling would probably be independent, I'm guessing though.

The college where I live has no major in physics but instead mathematics in a community college near by I can probably select that and choose the physics classes that are involved.

Thanks all for your judgments.
I should get started.
