others have posted success with not soaking rye.

i soak my rye because i've tried not soaking it, and i can't get moisture content right.

i soak ~20 hours.

boil until they look right.

I said I have seen no soak/no simmer?
Boil?  I wouldn't bring grains to a boil but if that works for you more power to ya O_o

A good friend of mine doesn't soak or simmer. He loads the rye and adds water at a 2:1 ratio and the grain comes out fine.

It isn't for me but he does it successfully no problem every time.....

Also adding detergent won't kill bacteria.....

This is exactly what I do too,

As soon as the grain starts to bubble you assess the moisture content and dump and steam.

I suppose "boiling" or "simmer" is just a figure of speech,

The only real reason to even put the grain in the pot and heat it up is to drive moisture in until it is plump and to provide enough heat to evaporate all the water off while on the screen...

i really think its an altitude thang.

cuz i soak for 20+ hours

and "boil/simmer" for 10+ minutes, and i never have a burst grain, they are even dry sometimes.

maybe its a humidity thang too?

Do you soak in cold water? That is probably why.
Usually burst kernels are for warm water soaks from my experience.
The 1/4 teaspoon of powedered lome help immensely. You should try it koolaid. It really helps keep the kernels from sticking together in the autoclave a lot better than straight gypsum,

no actually i soak it in as hot water as i possibly can.

this is why i'm so unsatisfied with current answers.

it has to be environmental.

I've always had poorer results with hot water vs cold.

Strange,

Lysol is about as useful to mycology as motor oil is to cooking.

Well if we are talking about general mycology. Maybe ... But lysol helps and provides an clean enviroment for alot of user... Not me because i dont have lysol here.. Mycology in home demands cleaning so i say.... "thats not true"
And dont tell me you are not useing detergents to keep enviroment clean..

Well I see things differently and know "it" to be true.

I don't use detergents.

I use water with 10% bleach.

I also use a flow hood and an autoclave to keep my environment clean.

I prefer not to breath in oust, lysol, or anything like it....

When I used a glove box I used to use lysol. I is not necessary though. All you need is bleach/water and 70% iso alcohol.

Misting the room with a low concentration bleach water and then remisting with water before you work in the box is ample enough to trap anything in the air and keep it on the surface of the counter, floor, etc.

Are you asking for advice?  Which has been given to not use it and there not being a need to use it.

Or are you asking permission?

Seems you are adamant about using detergent despite the advice of anyone posting.

Simply put;  If you want to use it, then use it.

to me common sense dicatates that whatever point of your grain preperation that you see the most water loss, and greatest grain size gain would be where you get your hydration

i read about people putting thier pots of wbs on the stove turning it to high, bringing it to a boil, and dumping, i tried it, worked great with 100% sucesss, start to finish.  so i made it my standrad for wbs (when im in a pinch, wbs = last resort in my practice)

so than i heard about people doing the same for rye with success, so i tried it with my most recent 50lb bag of rye, im not currently finished growing out that 50lb, but so far so good (100% success so far)!!

i personally feel soaking is where you get the majority of your hydration, when you simmer or boil or whatever you method is do you see the grain soak up the water and expand? no    When you soak your grain does the water level drop and the grain expand ? does for me

my thoughts are aligned with Koolaid

Hello, hate.

An antimicrobial soap would kill some germs.

It shouldn't be necessary to use this soap if you are pressure cooking your grains for 2 hours at 15 psi.

Some people on this site are purists, and loath chemicals.

I occasionally use (and leave in a little) antimicrobial dish soap if I am working with a new culture from wild. I 1) leave a little antimicrobial dish soap in with my grain, 2) make the grain a little dryer, and 3) use a minimal amount of the unproven culture.Other than on a new culture from the wild, I wouldn't bother using it accept for dishes.

Guys thanks for replies ... And i think so about some detergents..
Except that i have a cronic problem with my pc ... İ know i have to change it... Thats the main reason that i have t get any success yet... As you said "2 hours 15 psi "is guarantee but what i can do max is "12 psi 80 minutes"... So i am checking out other posibilities to help my killing process...
Last time when i simmered wheat they become soup.. Next time after soaking i will put them on 100•c watEr and quickly will start to drying ... After they became 100% dry i will load and little bit boil and than pc...
