Are religious people more happy?

They must be, right?

I wish I could bring myself to believe we are a worthy creation rather than the fact that we are just a "mistake" of nature/evolution without any purpose other than apparently fucking everything up and fucking each other over in the pursuit of so called happiness.

Not always, some of the religious people I knew were always seriously stressed about what they were doing wrong and things like that out of worry what's going to happen when they die. :shrug:

Just make the best outta your life, it's all you can do. :bongload:

Depends what religion you follow. Christians are never happy (the real fundamentalist ones that try to seriously follow the bible), because they live in fear under the belief that they're "not doing enough for the lord", so their constantly trying to do "good deeds" and throw the bible in everyones faces because they believe they're earning points to go to heaven when they die. It's all done in their own selfish self interest though because they're so afraid they'll go to hell forever and ever if they don't earn enough Jesus Points by telling random people on the street that "Jesus told me to tell you that god loves you and has a plan for your life", giving away their income to the church, reading their bible, worship on Sunday and so on and so on.


Ex Christian here BTW. That used to be me, so that's how I know. There's a lot of people that do that kind of shit and I think it's sad. Looking back now I'm somewhat ashamed that I was so naive to believe that Jesus bullshit and that I was so serious about it for a while. Hey once you realize the truth about Christianity you never go back that's for sure. Christians are miserable sad people.

Lots of religious people suppress their homosexual urges, thus causing extreme anxiety and frustration. Christianity is a homosexual based religion, their thesis is to love and worship a Jewish man named Jesus.

Why would any man want to worship another male? And why a Jewish male? The whole thing is sick, yet they say homosexual acts are a sin.

A man that worships another male is a homosexual, Christianity promotes homosexuality, yet is speaks out against it. Worshiping a Jew is also messed up, why the hell should anyone worship a Jew?

I've often felt similarly...you know those church programs where they profile megachurches, and when they pan through the audience, you see that crazy "I don't give a fuck" gleam in their eyes, that wide-eyed ultra-smug self-satisfied look because they KNOW they are a super special unique snowflake hand-carved by the creator and arbiter of the universe...I kind of miss that feeling. 

But then I remember that's probably what I look like at shows rolling my tits off and the like.

So yeah, we're just a chemical accident, overgrown bacteria with awesome imaginations...but we got the best droogs in the known universe...so there's that :laugh:

You don't have to be religious to know there is beauty in the world despite the overwhelming presence of evil, misfortune and pain. I'm pretty unhappy myself, though, so...who the fuck knows.

It's not a mistake.  A mistake implies a creator who fucked up.  This is just how things are.  It's not the right or wrong way, it's THE way.

That's why I put quotes around mistake. By mistake I meant relatively ephemeral product of random chance.

All I see when I look around is sickness, death, selfishness, and waste. Even with moments of happiness it's hard to understand what the point in continuing to live or work towards anything is. Even if you do good a bunch of assholes will undo it or do more evil to cancel it out.

Sometimes I wish we would get the inevitable over with and nuke ourselves out of existence.

Instead of that, how about we engineer a virus that will kill anyone with an IQ of less than say 125. Just kill off all the dumb fucks and I'd bet 90% of the problem goes away.

It wouldn't solve anything. There are a lot of assholes, evil, and otherwise "bad" people with IQs > 125... Arguably the people with IQs > 125 do some of the worst stuff or cause a lot of the problems.  IQ doesn't really correlate to much, and I say that as someone with a pretty high IQ--definitely not happiness anyway.

Im happy because of the HOly spirit and its gifts and benifits. Not because of some idea that god is there for me, or that I was created by purpose.

If you think people who have found happiness through Christ are simply enjoying the bliss of ignorance you are sadly mistaken, and completly ignorant of what being a Christian actually entails
