What's wrong with my sister?

She's 12 years old turning 13 next month. Throughout her entire life, she was always attached to her mom. Even if my mom disciplined her, she would go right back to her eventually (as in literally right by her side). Her relationship with my mom reminds me exactly like that of Ash and Pikachu. Everywhere Ash went, Pikachu was with him. It's almost as if she's scared on the inside that one day her mom might disappear and never come back to her side again. But does anyone know what kind of problem she has?

Well it does make my mom frustrated at times. Now there's customers at our family restaurant who notice she's always with my mom no matter where she goes, and they question about it. I think she loves my mom way too much lol

She's in 8th grade...just 1 year away from high school. Imagine a freshman who's still so attached to her mom...

Nope she's not socially normal. She barely has friends because of her weird behavior. It was recommended by her middle school that she goes see a psychologist, which she did.

Until the age of 10, she would cry when her mom was out of sight. Actually, never mind. A few weeks ago I recall hearing her cry early in the morning because her mom wasn't next to her in bed when she woke up.:feelsweirdman:

Aww, :frown: maybe there are grounds to worry. Depression/anxiety maybe? She might really benefit from having her mother for comfort.

I'm sure she'll grow out of it eventually, some kids are just emotional. :shrug:

I have three little sisters and one is is a sophomore in high school... Talk about an emotional wreck

Yeah I'm starting to think it's anxiety problems, but I'm sure there's more to that.

I really do hope so, since she's about to go into high school next year. lol but I'm sure your sisters are socially adept. My sister is just a wreck. :feelsbadman:

Once the hormones start kicking in you'll miss that little girl. Who knows how our actions affect others. Something smal as an infant or young child can have a huge impact on us as we get older. Usually when we are ready, we're given thehance to work through it and grow, but not everyone can sieze on that opportunity.

Yeah, that sounds like separation anxiety, possibly S.A. disorder given the age and severity. Have you or your mom tried talking to her about it? It may be that she doesn't feel comfortable opening up to other people about having irrational thoughts about separation. Try talking about what she feels is going to happen. It's okay if what she feels is irrational, everyone has irrational thoughts sometimes, we just have to find ways to recognize them and shut them down before they're debilitating. Try developing some things she can do to feel better about it, maybe mom can write her a little note in the morning to keep in her pocket or is there a time when she could call home during the day to reassure herself that mom is still okay? (If you have to tell her teachers that she needs to call mom to remind her to take her pills)

that doesn't sound very normal. by the time i was heading to high school i pretty much hated my mom. i was such a bitch haha. but that's normal for girls that age. maybe she's just a late bloomer :shrug:
