Contaminated jars are running through worm farm!!!!
    #16652334 -

So as some of you may have read, I had 12 colonizing rye jars stall out from either poor GE or bacterial contamination.  I decided I was tired of looking at them and disposed of them in my worm farm.  When I opened the jars, some of them smelled fine, but the grains were sticky... the rest smelled of fermentation and were somewhat slimy... but all of them were half-colonized.
I separated the healthy looking mycelium from the uncolonized grain and spread it across the top of my worm farm, which is in a 30 gallon tub.  I then covered it with a thin layer of worm castings from another tub.  It has been about a week since then, and the mycelium has jumped from the grains and is showing lots of starburst, rhyzomorphic runs.  There is also lots of cottony mycelium running across the top layer (overlay?!{at first I thought it was cobweb... but then it got so out of control and is so brilliantly white that I assume its mycelium that has too much FAE in colonization} ).
Its really exciting, because this went from a failed grow to an awesome experiment that could really yield.  And to make things even more interesting, I had three separate strains in those twelve jars, which are obviously showing an affinity for each other... so who knows... In these weird conditions they could possibly engender a new, stable cross of epic awesomeness.
I just thought I would share this with you guys.  I plan to let it colonize a little more before separating the mycelium from the worm farm so that I may induce fruiting.

Yeah... I actually just decided to check what was going on and reached in for a handfull of mycelium... and was instantly hit with the a horrible smell and molds of every color!!! To make it even worse there were, infact, maggots in the rye berries.  Wow what a mess. :mad2:
