Nationwide Revolution?

Just curious, what would it take for there to be a nationwide revolution? Like one similar to when the colonist were trying to get out from under Great Britain.

Obliviously people are just too comfortable to get up and start/join a revolution that would most likely be for the better.

Maybe the world is not in the shitter, but you would think with a lot of people foreclosing on their houses, incarceration rate at an all time high, and government imposes on civil freedoms that similar people would come to their senses and join together?

:shrug:

Loss of wealth could do it.  If we go from a nation who's poor are obese to a nation who's poor are starving then people get angry.  As long as people can afford all they need they dont want to fight to the death.

I think the world is standing on cracked ice in the middle of a lake. There are a number of events I think that could cause the ice to break. The first would be a complete failure of the economy and the government. If paper money became worthless or so worthless that a loaf of bread would cost $100; that would cause enough dissent to get people moving.

Also, as stated above, yeah, the outlawing of firearms would cause a revolt. Charlton Heston's words come to mind, "They can have my gun when they pry it from my cold dead hands."

A military coup could probably pull off a swift change of government, but that would probably not be for the better.

The problem is, while many people are pissed about current stupid laws and stupid politicians, the politicians still have the might of the military.  If you could not get at least 50% of the military to come to your side, there is no way to win a modern revolution. There is also the problem that a lot of people either do not care or they think everything is just a-ok.  They are happy with the government, they think Obama is doing a great job and the War on Drugs is progressing as planned.

No, the only type of revolution that will work in this day and age is a political revolution. People need to stop seeing only red or blue when it comes to politics. Actually do some research and find a candidate that you belive can start the change. Not just vote for the one that uses it as his slogan. Stop voting red or blue just because your parents told you to. Vote your conscience and not just for the person you hate the least.

the american revolution was different, the british regulars were thousands of
miles from reinforcements and additional supplies. what it would take for a
revolution today would be organization. if someone could get the black
panthers and the KKK (all the militias, hate groups and others opposing
government) to put aside their differences for a little bit and focus on a
single task then it would be achievable

the form of government we have is fine, it's the officials within government
that's the problem, not to say that those who would replace them would be
better or worse

Says who? I have many friends, enlisted as we speak, that wouldn't carry out a non-constitutional order. If they were asked to confiscate all firearms, they would stand down on these orders. If another solider was to uptake their weapon, they would be forced to do whatever is necessary to maintain and uphold the constitution. Their power over the military is limited.

It seems like the majority of americans are so well controlled and distracted that it would be next nto impossible to motivate them to change the country in any way that would be considered revolutionary. maybe if they tried to take away our right to bare arms, or if they reinstated the draft. or maybe when we really start running out of food

It is silly to believe that everyone is mindless simply because no one has revolted. Give them purpose and they will. Look at the Arab Spring, Tuareg Rebellion, the Iranian protests, etc.

Nowadays there is way too much technology and surveillance to ever stage a successful revolution against their government.

Compare it back to the American Revolution - the people that were rebelling were already an overseas colony and the British had to send there troops all the way across the ocean to fight.  Not to mention the inferior naval technology back them, there was obviously delayed correspondence between British military officials in the colonies and those in the homeland.

Nowadays if a bunch of citizens form a mob and storm the White House they will just get bombed, or if the crowd is big enough, nuked.

Not to mention we rely on technology to communicate and correspond nowadays, which can easily be intercepted by government.

It would take the people following the advice of Timothy Leary: Turn on. Tune in. Drop out. Turn on to new ways of thinking, new methods of changing your thinking. Tune in to the possibilities that are within yourself and those around you, and the possibilities for opening up your consciousness and the collective consciousness of the society around you. Drop out of the current established status quo, the mechanical reproductions of society, the fancy sports cars, the luxury home, the 200+ channels, and the paying of taxes.

but in that scenario the least of your worries is the government, no, it's the masses of ravenous animals (stupid wastes of flesh "human" beings) out there, that you'll need to worry about.

they'll be clamoring and trampling over the bodies of dead babies/children to get to what little loot is left and then when that's gone, cannibal holocaust motherfuckers.

You truly believe that if a revolution occurred in any country in the world, they would just nuke those protesting? Why the fuck would anyone storm the White House? Is this what you imagine in terms of a 'Revolution'?

The whole post seems as though it would contain valuable information, but it doesn't. Obviously those protesting wouldn't use technology that could be intercepted as a means of communication. Also, you rely heavily on the idea that the military are brainless zombies waiting to carry out the governments instructions, regardless of the orders or their impacts.
