P.Villarrealiae grow finaly suceeds, New update 20/8 * 1
    #16575907 -

Newest uppdate last in first (this) post.

Hi,

I have finally got some P.Villarrealiae fruits.
The grow has given me pins on several ocations but they have allways aborted by some reason.

I think i tell this from the start.

Last year i was lucky to recieve some sporeprints of exotics from a shroomery member and one of these prints was P.Villarrealiae.
So i tryed to make a LC with the spores.

This was used to inoculate several ryegrain jars.
These jars colonized nicely and i started mixing together som substrate mix.
I used straw, hay, small alder chips, coco choir and some vermiculite.

The coco choir i used was coarse and had large pieces and fibers in it.
Maybee this isn't coco choir but some other coco thing.
I was bought at hydroponics store and was named something like ATAMI coco buzz or similar.

So i let this soak for a day under water and then PC'd it for 1,5-2 hours in filterpatch bags.

Then i mixed this with my colonized ryegrains and added a 2cm casiglayer of my coco choir and potflower soil 50/50.
The casingmix was also sterilized in my PC.

This was left alone to colonize and after quite a while i got pins.

After a while my pins aborted and i didn't understand why.
I got new pins who also aborted.
And again.

I was so tired of these always abort but i figured out that they did abort when i had been misting the FC recently.

About a week ago i was blessed with another set of pins and this time i have been very very careful with misting, actually im careful with everything, i hardly dare to fart in my apartment.

But it seems to pay off.
Now the pins are getting bigger.

And this is tonight (23/7-2012)

They are so beautiful, i really really hope they get to mature fully and give me some prints.

I have always had an urge for the little more exotic shrooms and im planning to do a P.Caerulescens try soon.
And if all goes as planned also an P.Zapotecorum experiment.

I will update with more pics as they grow.

/Mateo

UPDATE.....24/7...

New pics from today (24/7)
Sorry for quality, used my phone.

Tray 1:

They are growing nicely..

Some of the pics have a yellowish tint, it's the flash in my phone who makes this.

The stem of the one lying down is as thick as my middle finger.
So these ones can grow large.

Try find the UFO in this pic...

One more pic of the fat stem one.
I think this one is so potent that it has to lay down.

Tray 2 (Bowl):

A nice little group.
Notice the black mark on the caps of some of the shrooms in this tray.

Nice color and looks on this cap.

On this pic you can clearly see the black marks on some caps.
Why this happens?
It seems only to be on the shrooms in the SGFC (the bowl).
This FC seems to be a little dryer than the other who is just a plain tub without holes in it.
Maybee it has something to do with moisture or light levels.
In the lids of each FC are a ledstrip supplying some light but they are quite weak (low Watts even for leds).

Any ideas what can cause the black marks on the caps?

I will uppdate this 1:st post with pics as often as i can if there is any progress.
I hope they continue to grow and not die as my previous pins have done.
But they are getting larger than ever before now so maybee they make it to full maturity and give me spores.

Can it be spores i see in pic 3, tray 2 and last pic?
Hard to say from the pics, i look tomorrow when i take new photos.

UPDATE.....25/7...

New pictures from yesterday evening 25/7
Again sorry for my photo skills and a bad camera.

This pic overview first tray:

And second tray/Bowl:

Look at the black (bacteria?) growth on the last pic.

Also here it shows real good.

I had to remove this one, who knows, it might spread.

Also this cap is affected but not so much

When i had to cut one i had the chance of seeing the blueinig reaction

Some caps get this form

Can it be because of moisture to low or high?
Or maybee FAE low/high?

I uppdate with pics more soon.

UPDATE 27/7 with alot of pics...

Now this isn't good...
The black spots have spread in the bowl-tray and i had to take away some shrooms.
In the other tray i have several larger mushrooms aborting and i don't know why.

I show you as pics comes along.

Overview of tray 1.
Look at big shroom laying down left top/middle, it's turning blue on stem and cap darkens.
Also see the shrooms left down, stems turning really blue and caps darken so they to are about to die..

Here you see a bad focus image of shrooms aborting/dying.
Stems get real blue.

But with all bad news about my mushrooms aborting there is new mushrooms forming witch make me real happy:

Here you can see witch ones are aborting/dying, they get blue stem and dark caps

Overview of tray 1:

The ones not dying looking good

Now tray2, the bowl.
Here the bacteria have spread among the caps.
Many shrooms are dying/aborting.
Overview:

Pics of bacteria and darkened stems in bowl

But new shrooms is developing too:

This cluster of shrooms had to be cut unfortunatley..

But better to do before they are consumed by black bacteria.

I cut all dying/aborting mushrooms today and put the caps on foil and stems for drying..

Big blue one

Pics of picked shrooms

I wonder how big they can get with most favorable growing parameters..

Ï have now cut the shrooms with black bacteria and also the ones aborting/dying.
The good looking caps went on foil and the rest went on a newspaper for drying.
They do get mighty blue witch i think might be a indicator of potency.
I let you know as soon as someone eat some.

oh, input is always welcome.
If you can help with some of my growing problems or just want to say something.. do so..

Take care,

Mateo

New uppdate 20/8 2012

As the bacteria thing made me harvest what i had left in the trays i dunked the substrate in plain tapwater for 4-5 hours or so.
Then i put the trays back into the fruting tubs.
The substrate is getting very old now and i wasn't suprised when i got some green mold in one of the trays.
I threw it out and has i tray remaining of this grow.

But suprize suprise.. pins showing again...
Now i have moved the tray out of the fruting tubs and into a mini indoor greenhouse where i have an ultrasonic humidifier connected.
It seems like the mist isn't bothering the fruits/shrooms at all as it did when i misted them with a sprayer.

Now the pins have grown and come to this stage:

They seems to look a little better than last time.
No black bacteria yet.
But the substrate is so very old now so i wouldn't be suprized if something bad turns up soon.

I have a new small tub thing who im waiting for to start give pins.

I dont know if i should patch the mycelium who has come up through the casinglayer.
It has been like this for some time now so im hoping for pins soon.

2012-08-21 Some more pics...

Took more pics tonight

They look so tasty and sweet.
And i hope i get prints this time.
I really hope my new small tub will produce fruits too.

Take care,
Mateo

How long after initiating fruiting conditions did you see pins?
Why did you sterilise your casing material rather than pasteurising it?

Well done, I think this is only the second time I have seen this species in cultivation!

Thank you,

Well i think it took about a month until i saw pins.

I have always had bad luck when i pasurize my casingmaterial.
Maybee because i used the microwave and never did a "real" pasturisation.

Congratulations Mateo, and good luck on your P.Caerulescens and P.Zapotecorum experiments.
Awesome seeing more exotics being grown and techniques being documented.

Awesome, I have seen some success with sterilised casing materials but I think a properly pasteurised one is much more contaminant resistant due to the abundance of beneficial microorganisms, nice work:)

Thanx guys.

I know a pasturized casinglayer should be more resistant against contams.
I was lasy i guess and the PC was around, besides this my oven thermomether is kaputt and i must get a new one a.s.a.p.

This usually means that i buy one when i see one in the store and remembers, ahh i need one of those..

Beautiful work Mateo.  This is good stuff!

I have tried a block of this species without success, but I am still
very new to this species.  I hope for a few prints...you got them!

Take care, and good luck,

JD

Well, i might get prints if im lucky.

Im still wondering about the black spots on some of the caps though.
Anybody has got something like this on your caps?
Light issues or moisture maybee.

jimmyjame1, good luck with your project growing these.
I hope to see more people trying with some more exotic varietys.

I take some more pics tonight and uppdate first post.

Oh yes, I meant to comment.

The only cause for the spots that I could name would be bacterial
blotch cased by over-misting.

Great work all the same.

Congratulations on your success with this rarely grown species. :headbanger:

Looking forward to a potency report, in case someone accidentally imagines ingesting these shrooms.
