My first trip, I'm not sure what to make of it...
    #16483454 -

Hi All

I am not putting this in trip report because honestly I wouldn't know where to start. This was unlike anything I have read or heard about, so any specific feedback would be nice. I have been searching tip reports, hoping to find parallels but so far found none. One day I would like to write it up, its actually a really interesting story, but not now. I'll just focus on the specifics. As a fore-note, I have never taken any hallucinogen before and only occasionally smoked cannabis. This day contained a strange series of events that let me to doing both, though I normally would not have done either. Anyway...

To the day in question. I ate a fairly strong hash cookie around 2-3pm, and later was given a hand full of fresh mushrooms by a friend (cubensis) and decided to eat them around 4pm. By this stage I was mildly stoned from the cookie. I waited. 2 hours later (6pm) and nothing had happened. By 8pm (4 hours after ingestion) I remember looking at a photo of a frog and it was like it was in 3D, jumping out of the page. This was the only effect so far and it was gone pretty soon after. 10pm, 6 hours after ingestion. I figured the mushrooms were a dud, and had a toke of a joint going around. Within 30 seconds of exhaling, I had the heaviest feeling, like I was about to fall over and start rolling. I had to lie down, standing up was the hardest thing in the world... I stumbled to my tent, and I can remember feeling like I was about to die. I collapsed onto the ground and started convulsing, like a seizure, then blacked out.. last thing I remember thinking was "not like this.."

Eyes open. I could hear music in the distance. I sat up. I had no idea where or who I was, it felt like I had only just been born. I slowly realised who I was, why I was in this place but it felt like a forgotten memory from a lifetime ago. All my thoughts were in the 3rd person. I deducted that since it was night time, the person know as "Social Contract" must have a torch. It was clenched in my fist. I turned it on. I was right outside my tent, and from the looks of the mud on my clothing I had only been on the ground for about 5-10 seconds, but it felt like I had been asleep for 20 years. I climbed inside, feeling like I was trespassing on somebody else's property. I had to remind myself it was my tent, and it was a hard thing to do. I lay there, and decided to call a good friend. I cannot describe how perplexing it was, the mere concept of using a phone. I had to "remember" that "social contract uses phones" and have complete faith in that memory just to use the damn thing, my instinct for its use was completely absent.

We talked for about 30 minutes (he says my voice was totally sober but my words were complete gibberish) then I hung up and lay there listening to the rain. The conversation had cheered me up a lot. I lay there, feeling for the first time the total weight of both "stoned" feelings in conjunction. I was totally fucked. I could hardly even lift my head. This was now 11pm, about 7 hours after ingestion. I closed my eyes and that's when it all began...

For the next 5 hours I saw, with my eyes shut, a constant cycle of the universe being born, dying and being being reborn. I saw the birth and death of human civilisation, every event in history from the evolution of the chimpanzee to the formation of one world government all simultaneously and with time moving in both directions simultaneously. I saw the prehistoric man inventing the concept of property, and all major events of human evolution, from every perspective, in fast forward. I saw so far into the future the entire earth was a new life form, with the technologically interconnected humans as its brain cells and neural pathways. And just when it went as far as it could, it came full circle some how and started from the beginning. And this whole time, I was curled up in a ball, grasping my stomach, laughing with hysterically. Nothing in my life has ever felt close to this. This was happiness. The few times I opened my eyes, all I saw of significance was my hand rippling mildly like a flag in the wind, but in slow motion. Some wrinkles in the tent wall seemed like they were moving downwards, but staying in the same place at the same time, but thats all. This would seem consistent with a level 2 or 3 trip. But when I closed my eyes, oh my fucking god.

By the end of my trip, I was surfing through a sea of colourful balls, joined by a lines of energy. This was some form of synaesthesia for my own thoughts, I can only conclude. Instinctively I knew the balls were ideas and facts, and the lines of energy my ability to connect them together. I would do things like ask myself impossible questions, such as "how could the WW2 holocaust be seen as a good thing" or "why is death not to be feared" and watch the energy line buzz about, failing to complete a circuit, and I'd say "there, tricked you. I win" when suddenly the energy line would jump INTO a sphere, not through it. All the colours would change, the line would explode out on the other side, into a million more spheres contained with the one, and suddenly I would have the answer. More hysterical laughter would result. Later, when I read the Wikipedia article "Indra's net" (its a hundu concept) I almost had a heart attack. I did this for about about 30 minutes, but its hard to say. I mostly answered questions that had kept me up sleepless most of my life. The nature of infinity, my own atheism, good and evil, the purpose of life etc. To this day, 8 months on, all the answers are as a part of me as they were then. I expected the realisations to fade but they never did. It pretty much changed my life.

So yeah, thats it. I asked my brother about his mushroom trip and he said "oh, it wasn't like that. The walls changed color". I asked another friend, and he would say "I took my pants of and it felt good". Nothing like this. This was terrifying. This was like dying. This was closer to what I thought DMT would be like.

Ahhh theres nothing like a psychedelic expirience that teaches you about yourself and the world, shows you your past makes you think about the present and sometimes your future ive had a few expiriences like this on mushrooms one or two times, MDMA once, and lsd like 3 times its so mind expanding and beautifull no theraipist can fix some of the things psychedelics can Glad you had this expirience OP

Yeah, I ate them with a whole lot of cheesecake. They tasted amazing eating them like that

I will get around to writing up the whole report one day, its a pretty interesting story. Lots of stuff happened during the trip (gatecrashers, fighting + mass police arrests) that I couldn't tell were real or not and really challenged me in every way I could think of. I guess thats why the trip was so good in the end, all the potential ruinous events that I managed to get through one after another.

I'm gearing up for a 2nd trip, but I will have a hard time replicating or even trying to replicate the events that led this one to being so good. I'll have to think on it. Oh and one last thing, would subs differ much or at all from the gold-tops in the kind of trip you have? How much do you think the weed factored into my experience and will I be disappointed if I don't combine again?

Sounds like an intense revelation(s) you had there. I can just imagine what it felt like to go through something like that. I think the reason you had such an intense trip was because of the hash brownie you had. It got so delayed possibly cuz you ate a meal (or something to fill you up) before or with ingesting your mushrooms.
Next time it might be a good idea to have a sitter with you though, just in case. Have fun!

Every trips a little different and everyone describes it differently. But what you experienced sounds like a good ol mushroom trip  set and setting/solo vs group tripping all play into what kind of thoughts you have. Sounds like you had a weak dose of mushies amplified by weed. Mary will give you all those weird thought spirals and games that the trip plays with your head (the whole "tricked you, I win" thing). I've had weed take trips from being almost non existent to the most earth shattering experiences of my life

Good job on the report. I know its .it easy to describe these things. But congratulations now you know what mushrooms really do. It can go much much deeper in high doses believe it or not.  They get pretty intense, maybe too intense. The highest I've gone is 4g but I'm sensitive to these drugs.

I have no idea, I've only done libs.
I'd suspect that the setting will influence the experience much more than mushroom species, it's all psilocybin anyway.

Maybe someone else here can answer.

Wow, thanks for all the responses guys!

I had a few mushrooms last night actually, first time in a while! Not many, just a few to test the potency of a batch I picked that I will have with a friend later. It was very different to the first experience, that's for sure! Closed eye visuals/sound synaesthesia was there but I had to focus to see them, it was certainly not "ultra high def" like the first time. Also, at no point did I experience ego death or go on a gigantic closed-eye roller-coaster ride inside my own thoughts.

One thing I did do, was walk past the mirror in my bathroom and became shocked. My face looked so old, unrecognisable, the face of a stranger. Within a few seconds my eyes turned black and my face morphed into an alien face, mouth open, long and gray. Then it started to decay, and morphed into a dead face and I freaked out and ran out of the room. I decided about 10 seconds later that living in fear of my own reflection was itself going to make the trip worse, not better, so decided to go back to the mirror and confront it.

It was pretty terrifying at first, but I pushed through all the changes while strongly reminding myself it was not real and was in my head, and before I knew it I was quite enjoying the experience and imagining new masks and watching my face turn into them. Zombie face, alien face, cougar face, roman god face... I eventually realised that what I was seeing was the full range of my own facial expressions, and the hallucinations were just exaggerations of these. Knowing this, I could actually control what my face turned into, and I realised that the dead face was just my expression of horror, alien face was me expressing confusion, roman god face was an expression strength and confidence. Seeing each face in turn caused a new reaction which in turn caused a new face to emerge. So I spent about an hour doing this, thinking of masks I wanted to morph into, doing my best to make that face and watching the results. It was a lot of fun, I was laughing my ass practically the whole time.

But yeah, the old "hand test" revealed my hand rippling about half as strongly as the first time, and the room was very subtly "breathing" but not melting downwards. I guess I am thankful I was confined to a tent in pouring rain the first time, I'm not sure I'd have survived the mirror experience on anything stronger than this. In about 10 days I will try something twice as strong, wish me all the best

Good job, OP, cracking read.

I've yet to experience anything as powerful as what you describe, but I've yet to take any dose over 3g, and i usually stay in some small amount of control of myself.

That said, a lot of what you describe does sound intimately familiar, such as the web of orbs interconnected by energy representing thoughts and concepts, and the 3rd party perception of oneself and one's thoughts. I often get very mentally acrobatic when dosing; my brain seems to try and concurrently run individual thought processes for each stimulus I'm experiencing, and that includes stimulation from my own thought processes and those of other people. I find I'm insanely, emphatically aware of people I trip with. I'm an empathic guy generally, but this is taken to the n'th degree.

Good read on Indra's Net, btw.
