How long has the cake been in the terarium? From what you've written, it seems like it must be 5 or 6 days already. I think I see pins on the top picture, but they are gone in the bottom picture. Have any mushrooms grown past the pin-stage yet? You should be well on your way to your first harvest by now I think. If not then I bet you have a real problem.

If it isn't contamination, then I bet you have to alter your set-up. Taking out some the perlite might help your humidity problem. Is your temp in the high 70's?

Hopfuly someone who knows somthing will reply to you post soon.

p.s.
Thanks, that's all I needed to know about inserting pictures. I thought maybe I'd have to do something else to let the BB know I was inserting an HTML tag.

I'm new and all, but that doesn't look right. I saw a picture in the gallery of something called "cobweb fungus". Your cakes look so fuzzed out, maybe all that moisture has contaminated them.

I was thinking that instead of using the lid to my terarium, I'd buy another teraruim and put it on upside-down as a lid. Inside of it I'd put a slanted piece of plexi-glass to make the moisture run off. This would make my terrariun twice as tall, but the footprint would be the same, and I'd still be able to use the whole bottom for growing. I guess I'd have to make some windows too, or I could just use aquariums. What do you think?

p.s. how do you insert pictures into bulletin board messages? I know that you loaded the pics to your aol member area, but what tag do you put in the message to make the picture show up? Thanks.

Well, actually, the reason I think the mycellium looks fuzzy is because, while still in the jars, I flipped the jars and tapped it a few times so the cake would slide off the bottom a bit (allowing the mycellium to grow there better) and it just filled up the empty space that I opened up for it, thus making it more "fluffy" on top. But then again, I am new, and it could be cob web mold (I hope not). It's hard to show you how to put pics on here with out confusing you because if I type what I put to put a pic up here, then it will try to put a picture up here and not put what I typed. But you can go to ebay, sell, and scroll down to the description and its got an example there. i.e. :
img src=ftp://members.aol.com/(screenname)/(filename).....and put all of that in between <>, hope that helps a bit.

If you wanted to insert a picture onto a UBB than it's VERY EASY ~ All you have to do is use the image tag... Get the URL of you image by right clicking it online (if it's your own image youcan take it, upload it to an AOL, or Geocities, or other FREE webpage)and click PROPERTIES... or something of the sort depending on your browser and then put it between *img* & */img* brackets... replacing the "*" with [ & ]...

Let's do it with the Shroomery logo....

Well its been in there about 4 to 5 days, and I only birthed it early because it had bad water damage. It took about 2 to 3 days to fully conlonize in the terrium, and now it looks like that. But I would like soemmore advice if someone will help me out.

Looks to me like the top of the cake isn't fully colonized yet.

The only good thing about contamination is, once you got it there is no way not to notice. Be patient, if the cake turns green/black/yellow you know you have a problem....

Well, the yellow and the dark spots are completlly gone now, and I've put it in the terrium with the rest of my cakes. Hopefully he will live his life accordingly and produce ample amounts of hallucigenic fungus. Thanks for your posts on this topic.
