slow mycelium growth? (jar pics)
    #364456 - 07/31/01 11:19 PM (23 years, 2 months ago)

So my friend would like to know why her mycelium hasn't begun pinning yet, and it's been about 6 weeks since innocultation. Any possibilities?

She has been giving them light since the start (she's gonna grow neglect-tek style) and also, they are the gulf coast strain. I've read that it's a slow colonizer, but this slow?
Anyways, her cakes are white now, but still a lot of areas are more "fluffy" rather than actual mycelium network...

So is it alright to birth now? Or should she wait until the mycelium gets "thicker"... A few cakes have small "veins" of mycelium growing, (see pic) is that a good sign?
Others are more fluffy still (see pic).

Anyways, thanks for all the help...

Sorry for the crappy quality...
Do the jars look "normal"?

Ok, my friend is kind of "worried".
It's been about 6 weeks (she innoculated on June22) and no sigh of pins, let alone a fully colonized jar. If you cant see those pics, here's a description:
Some jars have "veins" of mycelium growing, with fluffy mycelium around it. You can still see the substrate through the fluffy mycelium...

Is this bad? Wil they ever pin?

birth them. i've never gotten a jar to successfully pin via neglect tek but within five days of after birthing them they start pinning. must have to do with air exchange. good luck

Wrong! Wait for pins to form invitro if you're intent on growing them as cakes. A cake can sit for weeks in a terrarium without pinning.

My friend is going to wait until she see's pins to birth half of them, the other half she's doing invitro...

So can you guys see those pics? And her cakes are ok then, a bit delayed?

Nope the pics wont stay up... They were here for a few hours if any of you saw them,.. It's called "hotlinking" and it isn't allowed with most free web srevers. I'll try and find one that allows it...

you prolly just need to wait. besides, if they are colonizing slow theres nothing you can do about it. if they are almost done you can take out the uncolonized substrate and then case

sleeping by yourself at night can make you feel alone,
youre girlfriend said so, but i dont really know
