Unwrap the scalpel from the tinfoil And quicly cut some squares in the agar. Insert the squares in the bottle. Here you see three pieces floating in the water.

Close the cap tightly and shake as long as you like. Remember the longer the better! Put the needle on the syringe Injetc the sterile air into the bottle. And draw your syringe while keeping the bottle upside down.

Looks great but its a bit much work. Get your syringe and sterlize it either in a p cooker or boil for ten mins and suck up some of the boiling water. If p cooking it just fill the syringes and cook the full syringe with water in it and the needle on, make sure the needle is pointed upwards. Now take you sterile syringe and use the needle to scrape a lil mycel loose on the petri. Squirt a lil water on it and suck teh mycel particles up. Maybe ad a few drop of h202 to the spot you just scraped and then suck the h202 up into the syringe also. Try to suck most of the slurry up off the petri. Your set. I use no hepas or covers and i have never made a bad mycel syringe, The spot on the petri will recofver in a day or two because of allt he lil mycel particles that left behind.

This looks like the way I would like to try to go about keeping my shrooms going. How does one get mycelium to grow in a dish? What do you use for it to grow on? Can you just scrape it off from a cake after the first couple of flushes?Any help would be appreciated. Thanks and take care. ------------------ easy

Another good way of doing it can be found in 9er's Tek. He takes the stem of a mushroom and puts it in a blender to create mycelium water. He then uses that to innoculate his jars. There are pics and stuff, a good tek if you have a compatible blender and/or want to avoid agar. -snarf [This message has been edited by snarf (edited June 27, 2000).]

Probably not. You have to blend the shroom with the water and i'm thinking that a coffee grinder isn't made for liquid stuff. Also, the whole blender tek in 9er's process is used to ensure sterility. He puts the assembly in a pressure cooker, something I don't think you can do with a coffee grinder either. Bottom line, it would be hard to keep the process sterile enough with a coffee grinder to ensure your jars don't get contaminated with the shroom water.-snarf
