who ever suggested dropbox.com SUCKS!!!

i went to dropbox.com, signed up for an account with the 50 gig space, saved all my important files including pictures from over 5 years!!!! then made sure everything was there, and it was, then installed a fresh OS on the computer.

i went back to get all my shit off the site and start organizing when i noticed none of the saved folders have shit in them!!! all my picture files are there. same names and all, but theres nothing in the folders! same for the music. all my music is there, but the folders are empty!!!

what the fuck! i lost all my pictures...

So you've never tried DropBox before and your first test was with all your important files from over five years? You didn't even make sure everything saved alright BEFORE you wiped your hard drive?

I mean, I'm pretty terrible with computers, but wow. Wow.

i did. everything was saved. i checked a few times... then i wiped. besides, the guy who suggested it seems pretty trust worthy when it comes to this.

i was able to recover my files from windows but not ubuntu. the files from ubuntu were the more important ones.

the folders are there, all folders, but they are empty when i click on them...

I'm betting you didn't wait for the files to upload fully. You were trying to upload several gigs of stuff, of most people's internet connection you realize that would take several days if not a couple weeks right?

after i downloaded i was able to see them in drop box. i checked the site twice before i jumped out of ubuntu. i even got back into windows and checked the files and all were there, saved on the site.

no, it wouldnt take days...

Usually the folders get uploaded first, then the files. I think Pwn might be right here.

Because you were fetching them from your local machine.... It takes a long time to upload.

im clicking through the files and some are there and some arent.

is there anyway to recover files from a computer after installing a fresh OS?

im gonna make a thread. this is kind of important to me.

Yes, Immediately stop using it. Use a different computer to figure out how you are going to recover what is left.

Tell me your internet speed (upload), and the amount of data you're trying to upload, and I'll tell you exactly how long it should take.

If you don't know how to answer those questions, then you have absolutely no right to be making making any statement about how long it would or wouldn't take.

Are you sure your UPLOAD speed is 10Mbit? That sounds pretty fast...

oh boy that's really a pathetic state, I had the same issue with Dropbox. I lost all my data the same way and was never able to get them back. The only thing I had to do was change the product.
Recently, our service provider came up with a similar solution called SyncBlaze, it seems to be impressive and have some additional features that are beneficial.
