If you're happy then shit that's all that matters.  Better than all these people that feel like they just have to be with someone.  Then settle for the next random person to come by and end up making each other unhappy their whole lives.

Marriage is kept alive by modern capitalism. Watch this.

Only people in unhappy marriages will have such a negative attitude towards it. Just sayin. You guys and gals are picking the wrong pickings I believe.

Sounds a wee bit like the True Scotsman Fallacy. Did you know that depressed people suffer from depression?

Fun fact: the first person detectives are suspicious of in a murder or disappearance is the soulmate, er, spouse.

Horseshit! What a jaded, generality. We adhere to a mystical model, enhanced by a Psychedelic Vision of Unity. I currently prefer a Western alchemical model of Sun & Moon, my lady refers a Taoistic language of Yin-Yang, but we both grok the identity of both. There is intra-psychic wholeness, and inter-psychic wholeness - where 1 + 1 = ONE, or again, 2/2 = 1. We continually discuss duality and unity. Two nights ago we both had dreams of a mouse. Rose is horrified by rodents, while they are just critters to me. My mouse was psychedelically colored. This morning, the day after our dreams, I found 2 dead, bloated mice in the skimmer cup of the pool. They were embracing one another in death. They probably died the night we dreamed of 2 mice, owing to their bloated state. If the dreams coincided with their death-struggle, the dreams were clairvoyant. If they mice died after our dreams, the dreams were precognitive. This kind of psychic consonance seems like the kind of alignment that occurs when women who live together eventually align the time of their menstrual cycles. As interesting as this kind of psychic alignment is, we are more interested in pneumatic (spiritual) alignment - two beings, One Mind - the alchemical "One Mind." Rose doesn't have a name for it, so I suggested this alchemical term from The Emerald Tablet. In The Electric Acid Kool-Aid Test,, Tom Wolff called it 'The Unspoken Thing.'

The love chemicals run out after 2-3 years. I'd never put anything in writing unless I knew someone longer than that to see if the relationship is built on something more. That's a pretty cool synchronicity, Icelander.

HORSESHIT right back at ya.  No LICENSE is needed for love.  Show me why you need a LICENSE to be in love and share love and show love and I'll recant.  Your rant provided no reasonable response.

Something something something about making divorce painful in the form of finances, having to do paperwork, and splitting all your friends so you feel more obligated to stay together longer. Unity under our glorious Big Brother so you can't just walk away willy nilly from the relationship makes people better at conflict resolution.

Hardly IMO.  It makes people better at staying locked into suffering.  Yikes!:whoa: who would marry if there was no pressures to do it?

Seriously tho the love of a good woman is nothing to scoff at

I do mean GOOD woman though.  The wrong woman can turn you into  a cynical, hateful, lonely old crazy person.  Shit the wrong kind of woman can break a man in more ways than can be expressed in a shroomery post.

Same bullshit happens to women as well. People can be devastatingly evil, cruel, or ignorant no matter what sex they are. And it's usually the nice people who try to stick around and make things work, making it worse.

And marriage? Give me a break. I've been in long-term relationships over 5 years each. From day one when you move in and live with someone, you might as well be married if you are not religious and you both don't care about a piece of paper (meaning your behavior is the same). The same psychological shit happens to you. But yeah, if you do care about the paper, there are people who for some reason will change how they act or feel once they finally do get married (stereotypes are get lazy, don't have sex anymore, feel trapped, eat a lot, have to suddenly have children, etc.)

It's all what you make it.

What? Maybe for some people but there is a lot to be said for just being able to walk away and be happy without having to deal with paperwork, taxes, etc. Feeling trapped is not fun for most people. Better at conflict resolution? If you are solving your problems because it's just easier to stay together, and not because you really want to because you love the person, what does that say about the relationship?

Marriage should not cost any money, nor should divorce. You basically just proved Icelander's point. People who live together for many years, who are still together, who can't just "walk away willy nilly from the relationship" as you put it (basically being forced into choosing a "painful divorce" or get along somehow)...those people at least can say they're not just staying together because it would be hard to get divorced.

What does a marriage license have to do with that silly vid on capitalism? What does your comment have to do with my response? Obviously, love operates on a whole different level than law does. Marriage is going to save me money, since the bureaucracy I work for is now exacting much more money to have a 'domestic partner' on my medical insurance, and marriage is thus cost-effective. And, the way the law seems to work with social security, if I dropped dead, my nasty-ass ex-wife would receive my social security monies!  But I digress. My point was that, like an iceberg, the bulk of our relationship lies below the observable surface of things. The physical (and financial) level is of necessity, but the spontaneous psychic and spiritual aspects are what really defines the relationship in its uniqueness. Lots of so-called marriages seem to be little more than co-habitation for convenience, for the biological imperative for sex and reproduction, as a financial arrangement (someone has money, and someone marries the highest bidder), for political expediency, for status, or for a publicity stunt (like that Kardashian chick). How many people approach life like Gandhi expressed it as "My Experiments with Truth," with an eye on personal transformation? It seem that most people are just desire-bound, and want what they want without even a thought about changing for the better.
