Hypocrisy

Saying we aren't hypocrites is hypocrisy, even if we aren't being hypocritical at that moment, because we have all done it at one time.

If this is true, then why do some of us get offended when we are called a hypocrite after doing something hypocritical?

because we want to hold to a lasting sense of self which usually means forgetting the points in time where beliefs conflict. Having the conflicts pointed out shakes that congruent sense of self and reminds us that we aren't always right, even when it comes to knowing ourselves.
