If you live your life as you choose, relatively unencumbered by primitive beliefs, and there is nothing after death, then you have won because you lived life on your own terms.

If you live your life as you choose, relatively unencumbered by primitive beliefs, and there is something after death, then you have won because you get to live forever.

I think this puts Pascal's Wager to the sword.

How? how is one to know whether they live forever or not? We simply don't know. Pascal's wager is designed around this very dilema, it's saying that you have to make a choice. Either you believe or you don't. The idea you are presenting is an assumption, and therefore, not a valid or proveable argument. Im not dissing you friend, just offering some food for thought.

This is how I've also considered this issue.  I'll take a win win any day. But others who believe it all get their ya ya's that way and so it's a win for them also. They're not concerned with a personal journey of the type you mentioned. They want a belief that makes them happy and is easy.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with that imo and it is not intrinsically better than any other way of living.  Whatever floats yer boat.

But no matter what we do, aren't we just attempting to satisfy our own contrived terms? The only difference is the experiences and brain structure responsible for said terms.

Agreed. I think the worst existential crisis i've ever faced is waking up every day knowing full well that i have to live according to someone else's reality or suffer the made up consequences for not doing so. I think people should just say fuck it and do as they please. if enough people do it they'll give up.

you want photos of me doing martial arts? ironically enough i do tai chi but that's traditionally not a fighting style. More like a moving meditation session. All im saying is im not a dumbass. I know how to get by and i can defend myself if i need to, though i prefer not to. I live pretty deep in Appalachian bear country, im not worried about some thug.
