I started a spawn jar 3 days ago, I was looking for mycelium and found this.
 Here is actual mycelium.

no that is just a seed pod, i see them all the time in rye.

Well I'll be damned, your right! It is actually a ergot sclerotia. Im gonna have to start saving those.

Yeah, dont eat the sclerotia, it is poisonous. But save for any chemitry friends that want to synth some LSD for you.

they are not any more poisonous than the hundreds of morning glory seed people nom on.. / similar in action when taken/ eating morning glory seeds over and over will result in the same negative symptoms..

Ergot is a very toxic fungus that could even kill you. Morning Glory seeds if untreated and fresh, they should not be too terrible for you.

I ate a shitload of UNWASHED morning glory seeds once, thought I was going to die, very bad trip, they were covered in chems.

Ergot contains very poisonous alkaloids along with LSD like ones, giving you a trip to hell basically.
I am 100% sure that these 'pods' are the infected kernels of rye made into the sclerotia. Pics are a dead on match from what I found in my grain last night.

Well you cant eat it that is for sure, but I am going to see if I can connect with someone down the line of friends that knows a chemist that might be interested in acquiring ergot mycellium. Should be able to rehydrate sclerotia, bust apart, and colonize on some antibiotic agar and isolate...
