My vote is for Santa Barbara. Plenty of college kids and you can still cross over the bridge and find crack..:rasta:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Coast_of_California

Actually, SB/SLO/SC are all the Central Coast. (I used to live there.)
Typically, you'll get a nice blend of So Cal'ers and Nor Cal'ers in these college towns.
EDIT: Although I'd imagine SC is mostly Nor Cal since it's right off the Bay.

Despite all the talking about cookie cutter family suburbia, I'm getting an apartment in south OC.
(Rancho Santa Margarita / Lake Forest / Mission Viejo area.)
It's really not that bad, and the convenience of bike trails (both paved and dirt), proximity to the mountains/forest, still less than 30 min. from the beach...
Plus I can commute to work or school, straight shot down to San Diego / Mexico... I could go on.

Surprisingly, it's one of the cheaper places to live in OC, although I found cheaper places in Anaheim area.
(Who the hell wants to live there though?)
The only thing I don't like are the tolls from driving the freeways. But the roads are plenty fast if you avoid the traffic.

What are you talking about, he said Central Valley?  Also what tollways?  The only one I know of around there is a private highway that runs to Long Beach

He was talking about SLO/SC, etc. as Nor Cal.
And I corrected him saying that it is technically Central Coast.
Not thought of as North or South really...

Central Valley is a completely different place BTW. It is a valley. Away from the coast.

Yeah. Never been there, but it sounds like it sucks.

EDIT: Is Sacramento that bad? I never knew it was considered Central Valley technically...
I imagine most people think Bakersfield-Fresno area when they think Central Valley.

Oh I thought you were saying he viewed those cities as being in the Central Valley.  Yea Id agree SC isnt really Nor Cal.  The only city worth talking about in Norcal is SF and the immediate area like Berkeley, Oakland, maybe San Jose.  Otherwise I just can't see the appeal. But norcal people love to talk about how their small sparse undense cities are great.

Different strokes for different folks.

I hate the city. And would rather live in small sparse undense cities.

Sac is better than most of it, but I still wouldn't ever live there again. Too hot in the summer and too much crime and tweekers (maybe it's switched to heroin by now...)

The suburbs seem nice though. I was checking out Rocklin, Roseville, Folsom.

And I can live with junkies. Fuck tweekers though. :paranoid:

I can't tell you how helpful you guys are. These are things you don't read in the classifieds. I don't wanna be around a bunch of tweekers or stuck in a valley...

haha man anytime anytime

SERIOUSLY THOUGH LOOK FOR APARTMENTS IN CHICO. IT IS THE SICKEST COLLEGE TOWN FOR THE PRICE IN CALIFORNIA

guy to girl ratio is LITTERALLY 60 40 girls at every party , its fucking insane. hot girls everywhere, they celebrate every fucking holiday insanely, the streets are fucking overrun with college kids after 10pm on th,fr,sa.
Weed is fucking everywhere, so fucking cheap. everyone sells weed. so much weed is grown, the college campus is fucking awesome

your right by some fucking insanely awesome watering holes and cliff jumps that get fuckin bumping as fuck (100+ people) and ahh man.. the titties..

chico is everything you have ever seen in all the movies about thee "awesome college experience". the scenery is fucking epic, the town is epic, plenty of small businesses to get a job at, the rent is fucking cheap. Short drive from Sac town, San fran, and humboldt to buy even cheaper drugs.

:awehigh:

and if you go there and decide you'd rather be somewhere not so bumpin as fuck, you've spent as little as possible on rent in the mean time so you'd have more money to move away.

look into it man.

<-- dunno why there are so many guys in that one
thats the sick watering hole, one of them at  least. it looks like a small stream but its fucking 15-20 feet deep! the water has eaten away at the rock and its sooo fucking cool. Jumpin off the rocks and just kickin it and blazing.
theres also underwater caves you can swim through, cool stuff. really clean water, big fish in it.

then theres the sacremento river, on labour day and other days throughout the year. Thousands of college kids float 2 miles down the river on innertubes, everyone with 30blocks in thier laps.

then they all get to this one beach down river, and everyone parties like crazy.
