Moving to California - Anyone need a roomate?

Well my plan right now is to transfer to the Academy of Art in San Fransisco, but I'm still waiting to see if I'll have enough loans for it. If I don't have enough for some reason, I want to move there anyways. I've been out there a couple times and really enjoyed it. I've lived in central Maine my whole life and feel used up, unstimulated, and all-around bored. I need a culture shock and a new environment.
I'm also trying to grow as an artist and find no inspiration around me... It's not so much where I am (Maine is an incredibly beautiful place), but the fact that I've been here so long and that I have the opportunity to get out and explore the world right now and its driving me crazy!
So I'm wondering if anybody knows some areas with cheap apartments (preferably near the coast), or if anyone wants a roomate. I finish classes in December and would be ready to leave then. I am quiet, clean, and well-mannered.
my email is wsmith21@maine.edu

Good luck with that! You should also be prepared to pay a lot more for everything. And you'll meet lots of batshit crazy people! Fun times ahead!

I pay $250 a month for a good 1 bedroom/bath apartment here. And it's in a nice, quiet neighborhood. Enough said...

if you need any help regarding SF, PM me.
just a head's up...Academy of Art sucks and the city will drain your life and money right out of you, then fuck you in the ass and kick you out.

Ya man - welcome to SF!
I currently go to the Art Institute of California - San Francisco (the competing school of the Academy). I moved out here from the hicks of New Hampshire... so I know what you mean about the culture schock. And believe me, your definately going to feel it as soon as you step out of the airport.
afoaf has a good point though - this city will drain all your money right outa your ass. Just be prepared to be paying some hefty city prices - and it may as well drain your energy too. Coming from New England, this city is very fast paced and shocked the shit outa me. Again, feel free to hit us up about anything in San Fran.

oh yea.. SF is hardcore... fastest city in the U.S... worse than NY... lets just put it this way... the cops will jail you for *NOT* being drunk and coked up.... if you have a car... sell it... not only will you need the cash, but it's pointless in SF.... if you can't find something to do within 2 blocks in SF, then you must be the most boring person on the planet. The last time I was there a few months ago, there were people staging a ballet with grappling hooks on the side of a 9 story building... in the middle of the ghetto (aka the west end of the mission district just outside the BART station... right next to the mccy d's).. if you know where i'm talkin' about.. go 2 blocks north and one block east to see the largest wall fall of propoganda art (pheneomonology to some) you'll ever see. game oN!

Woah - I heard about that... those ballet dancers who stage the side of a building. Saw them on the news a long time ago.
Your right though... I said fuck bringing my Firebird out here. A man will kill for 15mins worth of parking. And the cops are sooo laid back. Yup - good times ahead for you my friend. The only thing thats weird is how the city practically "dies" downtown after midnight. I mean, theres parties and shit, but definately the traffic is next to none over on Market street.
Im curious as to how many fellow growers/mycological studiers there are here in the Bay Area. Anyone? Anyone? Seriously people - it's all about networking.

watch out. SF can be really pretentious and jaded, especially if you're an artist. you need to buy burritos on Mission; that's a given. if I were you, I'd get a cheap apartment in Oakland, but the price of BART might be more than the rent difference, heh. everything said so far is pretty right on. you are going to pay out your ass, and you are probably going to find yourself at points depressed and wondering why you came. but if you get over that you'll probably find the bay area a pretty cool place to live. just remember there is a lot more to the region than SF. you need to visit Berkeley, Oakland, and Santa Cruz. San Jose and Sacramento can fall right off California, though.
last I heard there are cheap houses south of Jack London Square off 880 (thats Oakland).

- Damn straight.
I'm paying $500/mo with two other friends of mine for a house off of T. Island - Not bad out out here - just quiet and beautiful. Everyone talks shit about this place only if they have never been. There's plenty of great places around the bay and some good prices. Just don't expect to pay really anything cheaper than $800/mo downtown SF.
