I agree. A lot of people are just insecure and don't want things to be taken the wrong way.
I think it's pretty dumb. It's not like if a friend gives me a compliment I'm going to take it in a homosexual way...

Yeah, I agree, I think it's about insecurity.
Since everyone's mindstate is that being homosexual or acting in a way that's typically associated with them (eg. giving compliments to others of the same gender, which is ridiculous and puzzles me) is for some reason a negative thing, and adding to this mix the fact that they all want to fit in and be accepted, meaning not being or sounding homosexual, they're going to try and reassure everyone of their heterosexuality by adding an annoying and not to mention a bit offensive shit-phrase to the end of their sentence.

Sort of ruffles my feathers.
