Moving to So Cal....Calling all from Cali for help

Ok so I am not sure where the best place for a thread like this would be. So I figured I'll start it in the pub.

So I have decided to move to southern California in about 5 months. It's gonna be me and my best friend finally making our California dream come true. I know a lot of shroomerites must be cali locals and I want YOUR input. Any advice you have for someone new moving to the area would be awesome. Like what neighborhoods are full of crime and which ones are outrageously overpriced. That sorta thing.

Maybe one of you used a particular landlord/rental company that you either really liked or disliked. Any help with what kind of paperwork I will need to legally reside in that state would be really helpful.

We plan on flying out there for a weekend to visit of few rental locations, so we can get that taken care of BEFORE we move all the way out there with our stuff.

If this is in a bad spot could a mod please help me move it to a more suitable location?
And feel free to send me a :pm: about any of this stuff.

go to norcal, go to chico or humboldt. ive lived in socl my whole life andthere is a reason why basically everyone goes north for college

I'd say it really really depends what kind of 'vibe' you are looking for.
I only have experience in the LA/OC area, which I kind of like for whatever weird reason.
There is no shortage of yuppie douchebags and fake materialistic two-faced backstabbing type people.
There are some cool heads though, and some areas with pretty cool scenes.
If you're not living in the ghetto or way inland you're pretty much paying out the ass for rent.
And you do not want to live in LA/OC without a car.
I stay near the beaches. I've heard San Diego is really nice... only visited there once myself.

Thanks for the replies guys:thumbup: I originally wanted to move to norcal to live in the Humboldt county, emerald triangle area. but my buddy used to live in socal as a kid and has his heart set on being there again. Besides there won't be any reason after living in socal for a while that I wouldn't be able to move north.:shrug: And honestly I wanna be there too, deep down.

There will be yuppies everywhere I go and asshole and losers etc.. So I'm not really worried about them. And I don't care how cheap the weed is in any part of the state because once I get a license I will finally be allowed to grow legally(sort of). Or any other drug really:shrug: i grow or make all my intoxicants so Fair Market Value doesn't concern me. Well except hard alcohol I haven't tried distilling, yet:lmafo:But the rent could be a factor, still though it'll be socal. Once I'm there I can travel up the coast and check out norcal.

What Do you mean when you say ghetto? Because I remember cabrini green in chicago and I've been to the slums of brooklyn. I've also been in the back ass sticks of arkansas where the KKK and inbreeds still exist. So how would you compare it?

It has to be within driving distance of Distribution Center so my buddy can transfer his job. What do you consider to be way inland? Because neither one of us want to live on the beach, the rent is astronomical. How much are you paying if you don't mind the question?

Denver, Colorado way better, without the earthqukes...You can have an 1/2oz and cops cant do anythang.......HI even better, you can have up 8 plants(4 flowering /4 non-flowering ) and 2oz and it's an one time fee for the permit..

The ghettos of LA are worse than the ghettos of New York but not as bad as Chicago.

For where to live in socal, you have LA and San Diego.  In LA you should check out Hollywood -> mainly echo park, silverlake area.  West Hollywood is cool also though.  Koreatown has some fun areas.  Otherwise live near the beach in Venice, culver city has some pretty hip areas now.  The city is fucking huge though, tons of little enclaves those are just my favorite.

For San Diego the best areas are North Park / Hillcrest , followed by Ocean Beach which is a relaxed beach community.  North Park is my favorite area however.

As for norcal, San Francisco is a great city.  Besides that city though, I fail to see the appeal.

San Fernanando Valley and Santa Clarita are fantastic places to live in Socal, not that expensive either compared to the rest. Not ghetto or flashy, just a nice suburb of LA.

san fernando area is ok, i mean.. idk plenty of clinics.

nothin to pretty, and its definitely ot bumpin.

i live 10 mins from san fernando, so i would know. ALl i know is Chico, CA or Arcata CA, or Santa Cruz, or San louis obispo are wayyyy more bumpin and way more worth it then socal..

I'm in the bay area and me and my better half will eventually end back up in Long Beach.  Which is LA county but is not LA.  If you are looking for a unique experience then being in the middle of Long Beach is your best bet because it pits you centrAL to everything in LA/OC.

The bay area is to far north. but Long Beach seems like a good location. What's the rent like there? I could see it being a very high cost of living town because of it's location. I would like there to be plenty to do though, I mean I'm not moving across america to live in another boring ass rinky dink town.
