A question (yet another)

I have got this tub

Its a small 12 liter box, as you can see the bottom holes are only like 1-1.25 inch away from the bottom line
will it be OK, or will it be too shallow?

Looks pretty shallow. Also, it's opaque?

Yes I was....
I had to close up for a bit
But I was running those as trays in a dub under bed sweater type tub.... ambient then was warmer lol.... prolly 75-80F no hygro .... I trust my tubs..... mist prolly four to six times...
About two zips per tray afer three flushes...
I have grain on the stove as I type... I will post progress

Four to six times per day? Do you think the frequent watering is what led to your flush of small fruits when you did that?

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the optimal watering schedule for an msg setup.

Please chime in on this anyone, especially if you're doing 6 qt shotgun dubtubs. How soon after birthing do you generally start your misting routine? Whats the routine like? Whats your ambient humidity and how much air movement you got in the room? Ever run into aborted flushes or crops of small fruits? When?

I don't mist dubtubs until the second or third day, then wet them as needed, about every other day.
That's in the GH, of course.

But watering a bulk tub six a day is insane.
Why not just do cakes if you want to work that hard?
Yield is better.

This is a 56Q sterilite model 1659 MSG build.
5q WBS B+ MS to coir/verm/worm castings 60/30/10 and a pint of gypsum pellets.
1st grow so i have no experience with other builds, nor do i have notable experience with this one.
Followed no TEK but used them all.

818G first flush (harvest) and counting, though its not a clear flush due to MS.
Before and after harvest pics below

BTW i know it's been said, and my input is strictly noob, but for the record, MSG's FUCKING ROCK.

These are my monos. 1 1/2 holes stuffed with polyfil, which I really don't care for so I'm moving to MSG. I did get around 9 ounces out of two flushes with this design with MS so I'm not complaining. Not thrilled about having to mess with polyfill though. I always found myself adding and removing material to get the humidity in the FC just right.

Questions about the MSGs... does size matter? Meaning can I use a 67qt container and turn it into a MSG? Sorry if that seems like a stupid question but the Mini part throws me off.

You shouldn't need to dunk bulk substrates before the first flush.

You can, but the center doesn't want to pin as well in the big ones unless you do a little manual fanning.

I will be fruiting my first MSG hybrid soon. I prepared my substrate a little on the dry side for faster colonization & less chance of contam.
Do you guys think I should dunk before the first flush or should it have enough moisture from colonization/daily waterings to carry-out the first flush?

No need to dunk first.

I posted this somewhere else.... but i'd like to share here again.
This is a sweater box on top of a sweater box.  1/4" holes every 2"

This is four 6qt shoe box "trays" in the sweater boxes

These trays are now painted black, and on a spawn run with lids on....
Will repost Jan 12th or so.

Just a quick update on my December grows (sorry for lack of pics).  So far I've fruited (3) 56q sterilite tubs of B+.  All were WBS spawned to coir/verm/wc 60/30/10 - at differing ratios.  2 tubs were MSG build and 1 tub is ad-hoc (3 x 1-1/4" holes per side with polyfill).  These are MS grows so the flushes have not been well defined but the results so far are as follows:

Tub 1 (msg)- First flush 1450g wet, 2nd flush 850g wet, had to throw it out to make room for another tub.  Misted heavily morning and evening and given 10/14 light cycle with 60w CFL at 6500k.  Fanned when misted, wax paper used for pseudo casing.

Tub 2 (ad-hoc) - First flush 1277g wet, 2nd flush pending but will be a smaller flush, only a few pins remain viable. This tub was fanned 3-4x daily and misted lightly 3x daily. Wax paper "casing" for pinset.  Evaporation is noticeably slower in this tub and so it was fanned more than the MSG's.  same lighting as above.  I have yet to get a feel for adjusting polyfill for maximum FAE.

Tub 3 (msg) - First flush will be in a day or 2 but already have taken 500g of early monsters (about 100g each) to allow the clusters to grow in unencumbered.  This tub had the best pinset of the 3 and I expect the first flush to exceed that of the other 2 tubs.  This tub is misted and fanned and lit as tub 1 above. Pics added

My experience is limited so far but it seems certain that the MSG build allows MUCH better FAE, allowing for less work and maintenance, with wax paper the pinsets have been great (to me) for MS and I'm convinced that for a novice, the bulk MSG build is going to be tough to beat, though i know some veterans have had wonderful yields with other builds as far as monotubs go.

Next ready projects:
I have another 56q tub ready to fruit and will let it consolidate for a few more days, it is GT MS from a LOT of rye (12 pounds!) spawned to coir/verm/gypsum.  I had 3 mycobags i bought before i got into WBS and they dried out a bit in shipping, i revived them with sterile water, they took a while to colonize (6 weeks), I probably wont use mycobag rye again... certainly wont be buying them.  I could have spawned 2 or 3 tubs but i dont have space to fruit that many at once.  This was a bit of an experiment but it is colonized beautifully and it should be a great success.  I'm probably going to transfer this sub to an MSG because they have worked out extremely well so far.

Also I have 2 rice bran meal/WBS flour PF blocks ala spongiform fully colonized with PE MS that I will be fruiting in about a week.  I have a martha set up now and have a few things to finish and adjust.  I'm hoping the PF block will yield competitively with the monotubs as they take much less space, and the automated nature of a greenhouse will allow me a bit more freedom and should, if i'm correct, actually outperform a coir sub pound for pound.  They certainly colonize quickly, 4 weeks as opposed to 6 weeks for a bulk spawn/tub (assuming 1:4 spawn ratio or thereabouts).  If these work as planned, they will replace monotubs for me in the future.  No more jars, no more WBS hassle (not that its hard or anything), just need bags and LC.  I will probably use MSG's in future experiments, however.

In the near future (colonizing):
56q mazapatec MSG
2 more 56q b+MSG's (i had a lot of spawn!)

If i can get spores, APE, Oak Ridge, and PE6.. maybe KSSS in blocks, may do some future tubs if i can clone/isolate some good strains.

I know its not news about the efficacy and efficiency of the MSG build, they worked out great for this noob.  I'll post pics of the tubs as they go along.  I'll use them again for experimenting with monocultures if I can get my agar work up to snuff and isolate some strains.  I'd like to refine pinning strategy using monocultures in MSG tubs.

Loving the MSG's!
