There is not much you can do except keep the straw at incubation temperature and wait. The higher the ratio of spawn to straw you used the sooner colonization will be achieved. How much straw did you use?

Getting the correct water content in the straw can be tricky. How did you drain it?

i drained it by putting it in a pillow case and letting it drain over night, it is a bit dry looking and feeling a bit moist is how i would describe it, there is not much straw about 1-2 inches

That sounds about right. My friend has a 12" by 8" by 4" deep tub of straw & dung spawned 7 days ago and he is just now seeing surface colonization. I would say give your project another week before worrying.

soak it in warm water and it makes snipping away at them muuuuch easier IMO!!!

The temp in the incubation  chamber is prolly to low. Did u poke some  holes in the foil.
and yes, spawning with more cakes will definitely speed things up considerably!
If u spawned with 4 brf cakes, in less than a week, mycellium woulda poked thru in many places, then
u coulda cold shock it and induce fruiting.
Hope they start colonizing the bulk substrate soon...
Also, try not checkin on them so often. Let them do their thing. Hard to do that when some1 keeps
opening the door, know what i mean

after you have picked through the straw, to remove seeds and leaves, wet it, then lay it out on plywood, and beat the hell out of it with a hammer . turn your hammer sideways, and it will cut and crush the straw real good .
