Even after I became a believer in UFOs, it took me a while to open up to the abduction phenomenon. It's difficult for me to explain how I came to believe in alien abductions. It's mostly due to the amount of research I put into it. I'm still skeptical of most alleged abductees. I believe the vast majority of them are lying.

If you take seriously the idea that UFOs are spaceships operated by beings from another world, you would expect these aliens to abduct at least one or two people. Any species with that level of intelligence must be obsessed with learning and innovation. They must surely be just as eager to study us as we are them. If humans discovered a life bearing planet, I'm sure we would capture and study the inhabitants. After all we already do this on Earth.

It was demons that bothered people at one point... and then fairy's in the Middle ages. They ET phenomena may be our cultural schema for fear-based thought responsive astral experiences.

Most claimed abductions seem to be experientially identical to sleep paralysis, but a very small minority of the cases I've heard about do seem interesting. People with supposed implants and what-not.

It could also be a cultural schema for people's imagination.
