I just had an epiphany about having epiphanies
    #13387622 -

I realized that epiphanies are about sorting out circumstantial data from metadata with relevance to your life experience. Then I had another epiphany: that the first epiphany I had had was itself a meta-epiphany. Then I had another epiphany: that the epiphany I referred to having in the previous sentence, about meta-epiphanies, was actually a meta-meta-epiphany.

I have this idea: Maybe, when the meta value gets so high that it might as well be infinity, that is the moment that you reach Enlightenment.

That, or Schizophrenia.

metadata is data that is inherently devoid of content; it is just a way of organizing content so it can be meaningful

well, traditionally these epiphanies are components of jhanas, which are like mega ultra life changing epiphanies, but they are just moments of such extreme concentration and realization that it triggers something in your subconscious belief system which changes the way you perceive everything, as you reach the next level of jhana you reach deeper into your subconscious, until eventually you reach the deepest level of understanding, and become enlightened. By the way, Inception is about the first four jhanas although from more of the view of psychology. I found it pretty interesting cuz Inception put the shore of the mind at the fourth level, which in buddhism is where you go past death and into the natta, or nothingness

Loops, Zeno's paradoxes, Bertrand Russell's heads paradox, etc.

There is a neo-physics book called 'I Am A Strange Loop' that explores some of these.

I was pretty disappointed by Strange Loop.
It had some good concepts, but I was expecting something deeper.

It was treated too much like an autobiography for my tastes, so I ended up skipping around a lot -- as I do with many books that may have good ideas but piss poor penmanship.

How does Godel Escher Bach compare to Strange Loop?
Same concepts, explained better?
Different subject entirely?

strange loop takes an overview of the core concepts from GEB and relates them in a really personal, informal way that ties in mostly with the subject of psychology

GEB is... indescribable. A 'fully-formed' description of GEB, or meta-GEB, would have to be equally as long as the book, or longer. That is one thing the book will teach you.

its not just a book, its an experience. it has been changing my mind ever since I read it. its still changing my mind today, and i finished it like 1.5 years ago.

Sick. My dad's got a copy on a bookshelf upstairs.
I'm on a Jung bent right now, but as soon as that dies down, I think I know what's next on my list.

Have you managed to read between the lines of The Red Book?

Tell me secrets. I don't feel like playing detective.
