Alcohol wipes??????????????????????

Hello, Ive got some antiseptic alcohol wipes but im not sure whether to use them as alcohol is not the only ingredient. Can anyone tell me if they're ok? the ingredients are as follows;
Aqua,
Alcohol Denat,
Glycerin,
Chlorhexidine Digluconate,
Aloe Barbadensis Extract,
Citric Acid,
Potassium Sorbate,
Sodium Benzoate and
Sodium Sulfite

Ive got some cambo cubensis planning to make some cakes in half-pint jars usin a brown rice n vermiculate substrate.
Its my first grow and im eager to get it right but am on a low budget.
Ive bin unable to locate iso-propyl alcohol. except in an aerosole style spray from maplins. =(
  Anyhow i could do with some help regarding these wipes. im only using them to wipes the apparatus clean. Should i fail to get a reponse i may just try one jar.

I only use alcohol wipes to clean the injection site on a grow bag or an LC. With cakes (which I have never done) I can only think that you are thinking of using these for the syringe needle.

It is far better to flame sterilise the needle and squirt a few drops out to cool it before injecting your cakes.

I was going to use them to steralize the pestle and mortar im using to break down my organic rice into flour(ish) substance.
I dont have a pressure cooker but could steam sterilize them in a pan with tight fitting lid if it would be better.
Also yes I was planning on cleaning the needle but will now defo use flaming technique. Thanx 2 doctor.

1: Use a blender, you will not break down that rice in a timely manner with a mortar and pestle.

2: it is not necessary for the blender or whatever you use to make the rice into rice flower to be sterile. Simply being clean will be good enough. You will steam sterilize it later when you have them in the jars so why obsess over it now.

3: You should both flame sterilize between injections and use alcohol wipes. I would recommend using alcohol (70% optimum) on paper towel, but those wipes should work as well.

These are the same ingredients listed in medical anti-septic wipes. These wipes have largely displaced rubbing alcohol for disinfecting injection sites and around open wounds.

In between every one of my injections, i flame sterilize until red hot, and then wrap the needle in a alcohol soaked paper towel, and inject right through the towl into my injection point...
I found the alcohol soaked towel cools my needle down(not that it "really" matters)
I just dont like putting red hot needles inside my RTV silicon ports...they dont last as long then(not that is "really" matters) :grin:

My sister has a blender i can borrow.
Glad you said it doesnt need absolute sterilization too.
I'll still make sure its as clean as pos tho.

After the needle on a syringe is flamed red hot you should not touch it with anything(alcohol wipe ect...)

While inoculating the solution/LC will cool the needle down quickly.

You only increase the chances of contams if you wipe the needle after you flame sterilize it

Flame it red hot and use right away

If your getting contaminants from your alcohol wipe, there are a few other vectors that would be effected to cause contamination that are not resulting from wiping the syringe.

I mean come on. This is a really remote possibility for contamination.

Wiping the site down before injecting is alright, but when you take a red hot needle that is sterile and cool it down with a alcohol wipe, you run the risk that in that time contams can stick to the needle, using 70%iso the alcohol will evap quickly off the syringe but that still leaves a short peroid of time for contams to fall on the needle and stick to it, compared to just flaming it red hot and injecting right away.

The flame from an alcohol lamp or lighter will sterilize the needle, touching and taking time to now cool it down/wiping it just increases the chance for contams

I agree with that if you take it out of the wipe or something like that...
I just leave my wrapped up...Old habits die hard...
Doesnt matter anyways, soon ill be injecting infront of a flowhood :grin:

Simply put alcohol wipes will not sterilize anymore then a 1000+ Fahrenheit flame will, its redundant to use wipes on the needle after it's exposed to those temps

That is very remote as far as probabilities go. Using a dry verm layer instead of a filter and port is probibly tits up worse than this.

next thing you'll start warning total that .01% of microbial spores will get through his flowhood and could contaminate his projects.
