Hey everyone,
I have read alot of info that said if the cake gets water during pinning/fruiting the mushies grow quite a bit bigger. Can you inject a cake with water? Is there a tek for this that i havent heard of?

You'd probably get better results from the 'dunk' tek (just ask baraka) at - http://mycotopia.net/teks.html. Also do a search on the forum for 'dunk' etc.

One way I've heard of adding water is to push a drinking straw into the middle of the cake, and periodically add water. I have never done this before, but have read about it here. I would start with small ammounts of water, and work your way up. Or, you could try reading the FAQ/searching for a "drinking straw tek" or something similar.

yes you can inject water into cakes.
when I did cakes I used to always inject water into them at birth instead of dunking before the first flush.....and I got some great results.
10cc at birth......and then 10cc every other day!
then I would dunk after the 1st flush and 2nd flush.
I never wasted my time after a 3rd flush....the cakes would be spent.
This picture is Acadian Coast BRF cakes....they were injected with water.
they exploded!!!!

you were using all sorts of sterilization methods when injecting them with water?(sterile water, flame the needle, etc etc...) i suppose...

yes Banshee i did.
steril syringe......sterile needle.....sterile water (purified water).....wiped needle after each cake with 99% alcohol.
I don't flame needles....99% alcohol will kill anything.

I flame the needle....and then take alcohol on a cotton swab and wipe the needle down. This cools it significantly. I do this all the time and have not had problems. From the time I flame the needle until i use it....its only about 20 seconds. Works fine.

ive heard of a lot of people who use strictly alcohal, but i kept getting a shitpot of contams, i started flaming the needle, and the contam rate dropped by at least 75%

I said this before in another post. But after I followed Roadkills advice and injected my cakes with water.....my dried caked that werent doing anything began to sprout some nice shrooms.

Injecting cakes does make an improvement. If you can i would advise dunking though, because its easier and you dont have to mutilate the cakes as much. Id say dunking is 100% efficient for water absorbtion and id say that injecting cakes is harder and 75% efficient because you have to open the center of the cake which gives better chance of contam and you obviously have more surface area when you dunk.
