Percentage wise.
    #13112993 -

What percentage of believers reach Nirvana? There must be many millions of Buddhists on the planet right now. How many have reached Nirvana?  What's your best guess.

Have you ever met somebody you think has reached non attachment?

I've known hundreds of Buddhists but never one I considered non attached.

I was curious as to the likelihood of one reaching this state.

The liklihood is very slim, IMO....look at what it took for the buddha to achieve enlightenment, have you met anyone in real life that had that kind of unimpeded determination? I don't even think the ascetics around his time had the passion for truth and enlightenment that he had. I don't think most people want enlightenment, to be honest.

No idea, but I'm pretty sure those that do would not flaunt it for us to even know about it. I heard that there are more Buddhas in this time then any other.

technically no one reaches nirvana heh

as for numbers who knows - but i'd imagine it's more likely for an ordained buddhist (monk, nun) with a dedicated life to reach enlightenment than it is for a lay practitioner who has other interests in life

it can take many lifetimes of practice to reach enlightenment, but there's many other relative benefits along the way that make it worthwhile to practice too

non-attachment is a symptom of enlightenment but there's also a strong wisdom component that's required too (and cultivation of compassion/equality)

i would say experiencing non-attachment is much much easier than reaching enlightenment fully, especially a buddha's enlightenment (which is omniscience) - if one has the right motivation and lifestyle, reaching non-attachment should be fairly simple i think - one really needs to remove themselves from societal worldviews though (though not necessarily isolate themselves from the world)

deff why do you talk as if you know what you're talking about? if you haven't reached nirvana, how can you know what nirvana is?

I think many catch a glimps of nirvana. After that they go on refining or purifying their mind so as to make that state or sphere a permanent reality.

So i say 100% of those that continue practicing their mind-training, or meditation practice, or whatever, reach nirvana albeit for an instant. After that it's up to them to continue transforming their whole being until that nirvana becomes permanent.

just relaying information from my studies - i'm not enlightened

it is possible to understand the enlightenment process intellectually without experiencing it - this of course isn't as beneficial but it's a starting point

i've got a lot of work to do :sun:

This is true for any religion. It's called faith and can allow for any type of belief.

I don't think any belief system would enlighten anyone.Docmatic belief does not bring anywhere.
You have to understand everything for yourself.
