Good books on hypnotism?
    #13081265 -

I don't want to read about the form of exploited hypnotism (People clucking like chickens, rolling around on the ground etc) I want to read about the mind state that is hypnotism, and how it can be used for physical/mental/emotionally change. Something with a bit of clinical/scientific backing would be nice, cheers!

is it a form of exploited hypnotism if I ether the cute girl working at the cash register and drag her back to my cheap motel room and have my way with her while I tell her how this is all a dream - but nonetheless something she really wants and that it will all be over and but a gratifying memory

Therapeutic Trances: The Cooperation Principle in Ericksonian Hypnotherapy by Stephen Gilligan, is a great book, one of my favourites.

Search google scholar, "hypnosis", "medical hypnosis", "hypnotherapy".

I was originally trained by Gerald Kein, as was Cal Banyan. Gerry had us buy Elman's book. I use the Elman induction in some form or another, individual and group hypnosis, 98% of the time since 1989.
An inexpensive (used), classic little book is: http://www.amazon.com/Self-Hypnotism-Technique-Daily-Living-Signet/dp/0451159845/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1282501992&sr=1-3 It shows you how to use the Chevreul Pendulum.

Hypnosis is a fact of consciousness. We go into it in different degrees every day, all day, from TV surfing to daydreaming to 'highway hypnosis' when you miss your turn from spacing out on the white lines on the road.
It was used by the earliest civilizations and one does not need additional theories or brain wave read-outs in order for one to apply 'science' to it. Consciousness alteration may require technique, but it is not a quantitative technique, and much more art than science.

Those look like some good starting points there, cheers!
