"What if" threads...
    #12971805 -

What if people stopped making "What if" threads, and actually presented some debatable subject matter instead? :strokebeard:

How could stars be the result of "what if"?

Stars, unlike the first airplane, could not have been created by a "what if".

flight is not created, but the tool to achieve it is.

stars are not created, but the tools to view them are.
We can also learn a lot about physics, our universe, as well as our history and possibly eventually the beginning of time, too. To be as naive as to say something similar to "stars cannot be useful to us if we are curious about them" is rude.

Do you have any idea how useful stars are to study? Gravity, distance, time, energy usage, dark matter, i can go on and on and on.

prove it.

We already know how stars form, & somebody asking "What if?" has nothing to do with it.

I don't know what would happen if people would stop making "what if" threads, but this place would have surely seemed brighter if you didn't make this particular thread.

of course, obviously there was no person to ask "what if?"

but that has nothing to do with it

infinite creative possibility

what if I stopped wondering what if?

how is it that I even wonder at all?

of course, one might say "wonder less, and be in the present moment more"

but we have, to some degree, more control over the present moment than we give ourselves credit for

and every "do" (as opposed to "think") has a reaction.

and that reaction is a response to a "what if"

whether realized or not

sure, you can't change the pooltable

and the balls will all just wind up in the holes anyway

but what if...

I still gave it my best

see, the thang about debaters

is they like to deconstruct things

always wondering "what if I can deconstruct this," or "what if I can prove this"

well, what if you could?

who knows what might be possible?!

just put some heart into it, because that's what really matters, imo

I don't think most debaters think in terms of "what if" when they're deconstructing ideas.
