Laminar Flowhood - (Blower Questions)

Hi, I have been busily reading all I can the last couple days about building my own laminar flowhood. I plan on using this tek -

But I have some questions about what type of blower/fan to buy to pair with Fungi Perfecti's 24x12" HEPA filter.

Is this fan sufficient to push enough air to G2G and Agar work in front of my flowhood?

Is there anywhere else that may have a cheaper blower?
I searched the interwebz, but all the other blowers I have seen do not have proper data sheets (on ebay, discount sites, etc) with them or are hella expensive.

you need 200cfm com ing off the face of the filter @0.8sp.
that one has 215cfm @0.8sp, so it would work, BUT!!!
you have to figure in your prefilter and the fact that
over time the filter will slowly fill w/ crud that passes
the prefilter. so i would get one that blows around 300cfm
@0.8sp.
the cheapest ones are free. call around to hvac companies
and contractors in your area, you can pick up used units
for next to nothing, and in some cases literally nothing.
gl! you'll be glad you built a flowhood, man!!!

I haven't gotten close to building a flow hood yet but I do remember reading that you want at least 100cfm after the filter.

I also remember reading that a 400+cfm blower will do the trick with a 24 x 24 hepa filter.

If you don't mind spending a little more cash then you can always go with an inline centrifugal or a mixed flow inline fan (they deal with high static pressures better then any other fan out there).

So if you want at least 100cfm after the filter I'd say go with a can fan 6" HO or bigger....the 6" HO should leave you with 180-230cfm after the filter.

thats 100cfm per square foot, so his 12x24 needs 200cfm off the filters face.
also you have to figure in the prefilter, because using one greatly extends the life
of an expensive hepa.

All I can say is that I didn't get how to pick the proper blower so I went with something that was alittle to powerful, but you could always use a blower controler to slow the blower down if need be.  My advice get something that is alittle over powered, nothing that is way over powered just alittle..

The blower you recomended looks very nice. I called around to some HVAC places and got nada, and then when I went online to order my HEPA from fungi they said it was backordered! so I think I'm gonna go with the smaller filter that is 12x12... can i still get the same blower? or should i go smaller?

go smaller if your gonna do this.
i would find another vendor or wait.
12x12 is really small.  you'll wish you had waited.
a flowhood is a major investment and
a valuable tool in mycology,
it pays to do it right the first time.
