laminar air flow hood question

i was wondering about the use of a laminar air flow hood when inoculating. is this correct?........
dirty air is taken in at the blower/fan and is forced through the hepa filters and blown back at you. you do your inoculating and such in front of the filter because the clean air blowing at you keeps dirty air from entering the area?

sound right?
just wondering wether i should build one or not.

Yeah man. i wish i had a digicam or scanner, and id take some pics of my setup/flowhood etc
I made mine with a 59.99(canadian) and mounted in the side of a box.
