Guests putting cigarette butts in bottles/cans/on the floor

I might be perceived as uptight, but it really rattles my bones when I have a gettogether/party and let people I hardly know into my house and provide them drinks and snacks and they repay me by putting cigarette butts in every container they can find that isn't the ash tray. The worst example was when someone put their nasty rolled cigarette in my carbonating machine container. Any views on this? Am I out of line thinking this is a breach of hospitality and plain disrespectful? Here in Norway you get 40 cents each bottle so I have to clean them all out in order to deliver them.

That's a total dick move.  If I saw somebody doing that I'd tell them to give me the 40 cents or they could fucking leave right then.

that is really disrespectful, at my friends hosue it happened alot too because people dont want to ash on the carpet n stuff. you just have to lay down teh ground rules and be like no smoking inside, or tell them to use the ash tray and treat your hosue with respect!

Yeah, it's totally disrespectful. I've yelled at people for doing that.

I've known people that will ash/butt out in a can or bottle when there's an ashtray right beside it. Like, wtf?

I would be upset as well even if I asked them not to and the cans were worth nothing.  My friends are pretty easy going and don't mind if you ask them to do something.  Such as the ground around my apartment balcony was covered in butts and I got yelled at and from then on they always used an ash tray.

I've also had people put out their cigarettes on my hardwood floor during larger parties. A beer with liquid in it and loads of cigarettes is about the most disgusting thing I have to clean up apart from people's puke. I am too tolerant of my friends/acquaintances, they always leech weed/hash off me and beer. Becoming kind of a misanthrope these days :p

dude, parties on a hardwood floor?  Still though, you gotta assume the people who are fortunate enough to be in your house will respect nice things, although maybe not if they're the beer/hash mooching type.

Enacting a "no friends of friends" policy has worked for me in the past, back when I had a nice play anyway

The answer may be obvious: Which is more important... the social parties or an untrashed abode? It might be easier if you had a lower scale party with less people - ones you can trust. Did you invite all the people that showed up? If this has happened before, you may have asked for it.

It may come down to... Either express yourself with rules and regulate the party, or become the doormat that cleans up puke afterwards. You have to live there; they do not.

make your guests sign a guest book, that has the rules of the house.  When you catch someone breaking said rules you fine them $100, as outlined in your guest book.  If they decline, you have there name, and can go to there crib and masterbate on there pillow

personally i do it myself at my house so i don't give a shit if guests do it.thats the price you pay.i don't mean to be rude but not everyone has the same mindset at th party they jut wanna have a good time so they aren't worried about a few bottles.don't like it dont have parties because that's just the way it is. I'd rather pick up a few butts in bottles then have my shit stolen and broken consider your self lucky.

i wouldnt allow smoking in my house to begin with. if I did, I would much rather someone use a bottle/can to ash in than the floor.

ususally we would do this only at places we were sure it wasnt a big issue with though. If i was unsure if an act like that was cool, I probably wouldnt do it if I didnt know the person well.

Well I don't smoke first of all and it's not ok by any means when I have several ashtrays on the tables. I've witnessed people put it in bottles when there's an ashtray 5 inches away from it. Also it is a big deal if you have to empty 10 butts out of a bottle in order for the store to accept it, the smudge is so smelly and disgusting.

i just throw the cans and bottles into recycling.:shrug: but if i had to clean them all out i would definatley not want nasty fag ends in there.
