classic southern rock lovin hippie rednecks

Any of you out there love classic southern rock as much as I do. Not necessarily while shroomin, but just sitting around or crusing around town listening to it. I love the old hippie rock from the late 60s and all through the 70s. Allman Brothers best of all, but also Lynard Skynard, molly hatchet, doobie brothers, etc. Stevie Ray Vaughan was in the 80s, but still fits that catagory. some newer stuff like Govt.Mule and Kenny Wayne Sheppard is great too! I love playing this stuff on my guitar. under the influence of a psychadelic, I usually listen to celtic music because I love the peacefullness of it, or The Grateful Dead because it is so lively and happy. But anyways, any other hippie rednecks out there?

I definitely love this type of music...everything you mentioned.  But I will not classify myself as a hippie because every hippie I've met has been rather pretentious (although I'm sure there are lots of cool ones I haven't met)
I dig southern rock!  I think its my favorite type! :smile:

I consider myself to be more of a free thinking, tye dye shirt and glass bead wearin, kicked back hippie, not as much a bitch about everything hippie. Although I can get off on a "bitch about stuff" tangent sometimes.  :tongue: I try not to do that often.

yeah. I just get upset when people insult me because I eat meat or I throw a cigarette butt in MY front yard! Its not like I'm saying all hippies are like that.....its just that the majority of the ones I've met are. I like some of the hippie culture and ideas...I just don't like the whole part of it where you have to be like them to be accepted.

if you like bluegrass with a "lively and happy" groove to it try, Leftover Salmon, yonder mountain string band, blueground undergrass. string cheese incident does some bluegrassy stuff also, and jazz and fuck etc.. alot of the jambands dig that bluegrassy stuff. just a thought since you did mention the allmans and the dead

Not a redneck or a hippie but I sure love this music a few more I'm interested in that would fit the bill, Widespread Panic, Outlaws & Drive by Truckers. Southern rock is probably one of my favorite genres, were else can you find all that soul in rock music?

When I go to an Allman's show I feel right at home with all those old ass hippies, Those are my kind of people. Ive been to two of their shows,and all I can say is JEBUS!! That is the craziest psychedelic light show Ive seen. There's just somethin about that gritty southern rock.

but yeah im a hippie, more into the flower child stuff like jefferson airplane tho.

Im NOT talkin redneck that has a closed mind and hates black people and stuff, that would be oxymoronic to hippie. Im a redneck in the sense that I listen to Allmans and Skynard talk with a southern accent, and wear a hippified cowboy hat!! I LUV MY HAT!  :grin:

since the topic is southern rock,I know several people that are related to people that were in Skynrd. they are the only good non-underground band to ever came from where i live(Jacksonville) no, Limp Bizkit does not count. you might be saying, "yeah,who gives a flying fuck",sorry i'm bored and i had nothing else to contribute.

when i moved to florida from new jersey i hated everything to do with southern culture (racism,bible thumping,conformity),after a while i realized i was just giving in to a bullshit stereotype.sure there are some people like that,but you shouldn't just give in and judge someone to you know them individually(sp?) i have a few friends who talk in a southern accent and live a rural way of life,but they are otherwise very open minded people.
back to the topic at hand...i used to never think i would like anything to do with country/southern music,but i really like Skynrd,Willy Nelson,old country style Grateful Dead,etc...
even you're into the southern rock thing i recommend a band from J-ville called Mofro.they're touring nationally now and i check them out every few months when they're in town at the Freebird Cafe(kickass place).

I love Southern Rock. Skynard, Neil Young, and all the greats. Does anyone know or like Drive By Truckers. They are some of my favorites in this genera.

he's also playing for Phil Lesh now as a "friend"

Warren plays with the Allmans now. I saw him in their show not too long ago. Derek Trucks is also fairly awesome he blew my mind at that show, but as good as he is, I think that warren is better on slide.

Love southern rock. I saw the allman bros band in jacksonville (minus Duane). So many old hippys in the audience just started tokin up and playin the air guitar. Great atmosphere, awesome show.
