Re: Spores on a Q-tip - in a kit - questions for first time grower [Re: shamrockgal]
    #12599426 -

Well, I decided to leave the whole thing alone just to see what it would do.  Left it in my bathroom with the small heater running while I was out of state for a week, came back and it was in great shape - almost completely white.

I mixed it with the compost that came with the kit and put it in the most appropriate box that I owned..which happens to be one of those rubber self contained filing things with a handle and lid.  Drilled holes in, mixed everything up and left it on the shelf above the heater in the bathroom.  Dragging out for doses of sunshine but primarily leaving it in the bathroom with the door shut.  Probably not being completely as anal with it as I should be, but it seems to be working fine.

Here is where I am 9 days into moving it into the filing box..there is pinning going on, the biggest being towards the center of the bottom.  Comments would be appreciated.

PS - a few days ago the damn thing fell, getting some of the compost on the top of the container.  When the condensation touches that stuff it makes brown "water" and that is the brown stuff that you are seeing on top.

Wow, and I thought nothing was simpler than the pf-tek.

if you would have read a bit more, you would have found you can keep your mycelium (the white stuff) growing indefinitley.

Yeah, live and learn.  I have a friend that is going to help me out on the next round, the more I read the more I learn.  This whole thing was not really well thought out and was borderline forgotten about at one point.  Perhaps the weather is just cool enough to keep it all moving slow.

One I still am working on...
I'll let you know when I come up with a solution.:hatsoff:

The surface is covered in hyphal knots. Keep the humidity up and mist. You should have 50+ pins forming in a few more days.

:mushroomgrow: Yea! pins  :awesome:

You can soak up the nasty yellow/brown liquid. I use the edge of a paper towel.

Mycelium doesn't like pools of water. Bacteria does. I say get rid of it.

Unless its a lot I wouldnt worry. You could mess it up again (by dropping it). It looks wierd but I'm guessing thats due to the fall. Lots of knots at least.

Yeah, there are a lot growing out of this little gap that was made by the fall.  I did my best to leave it alone after that, so that little game remained.

Thx!

Is it yellow mycelium waste or water at the bottom?
Either one can be bad if it gets dank.
(another lesson I learn the hard way...)
