Fluctuating temperatures during spawn run. Problem? Solution?
    #12380050 -

So I noticed over the past couple days the temp in the room I have my tub in has fluctuated anywhere from 65-78.

1. Are fluctuating temps detrimental during the spawn run?

2. Other than turning on the heat/ac in my home to control the temp better. Are there any other solutions that could help keep my temp more constant?

The fluctuations will be fine 65-78F are good temps to be at no need for a heater or anything

I don't think the fluctuations per se should be a problem, but 78 is pretty high for a tub.  What's the depth of your sub?

I would say about 4"

That thing will easily generate 10-15 F of its own.  I wouldn't go any higher than low 70s if I had any say in it.  If you can't control it, well, hope for the best I guess.

What kind of sub are you using?

10-15?

Really?

I thought it was more insignificant than that.

I think I'll use my digital meat thermometer in my next tub to get a core reading on the substrate so I can see for myself how much variance there is.

Could someone confirm or deny this 10-15 degree variance?

If it can get that high then I definitely want to watch my temp a little closer.

Although, my tub is about ready to fruit. Just waiting for it to consolidate.

I've seen a 20 degree rise.  In fact, I don't heat the colonization room of my mushroom farm, and it's always so warm in there that I need to keep a window open, even during below zero weather.

With a tub, I doubt you get that much, but I wouldn't use over 70F in the room you colonize in. Higher temperatures slow down the mycelium and promote molds.

Yes. Bigger amounts of spawn can produce a lot of heat.
With big bags etc. of mycelium, I'd also turn down the heat to the upper 60ies, lower 70ies.

Edit: Damn, I have to enable the notification, that tells me when someone else has replied during my typing:stoned:
