Pressure Cooker CRISIS!!!
    #12145987 -

I autoclaved my agar mixture and when it came time to open the lid to bring out the sterilized mixture, I cannot for the life of me open the lid of the All American pressure cooker.

Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know what may cause this? BTW This is my first try cultivating.

Thanks for the much needed Help!

He said he made agar.

Wait until the PC is just warm, not hot!

Then open the lid, it should come off easily.

Pour the agar before it solidifies.

UPDATE: the next morning I looked at the pressure gauge and it said it was at 10psi and it still wouldn't open. However I pried it open with a screwdriver and All American said they would send me a replacement gauge.

Thanks for the replies. I love you people!

Wait what? You opened it while it was still pressurized?
Or is the gauge broken or something?

Since this type of cooker has no O-ring seal or such, it would be a good idea to put a THIN coat of vasoline on the rim. It may help next time. Obviously your gauge was bad, but you should never attempt to open a vessel like this while it is under pressure. Always remove the pressure building weight to verify there is no pressure in the cooker before removing the lid.

I'm always a bit suspicious when people use "vaseline" and "rim" in the same sentence... ; )

But seriously, even after doing everything people say above, make sure you don't have your head directly above the lid when you remove it. Otherwise, if there's something you overlooked, your head could end up bouncing off the ceiling. I use my PC outside over a propane burner just in case anything ever goes wrong, so I don't and up patching holes in the roof.
