Quick question about pressure cookers
    #4006831 - 04/02/05 10:09 PM (18 years, 11 months ago)

Hey guys..my pressure cooker leaks water and steam whenever the temp starts to rise. This used to happen, however, after the pressure would rise the water leaking would stop. I tried putting Vaseline on the rubber gasket but this hasn't helped much. Is there anything I can do? I just don't have the money right now to buy an All American metal on metal cooker. Right now I'm using a Mirro 21L cooker.

Thanks for the help.

is the gasket broke, torn, cracked or damaged in any way?

The gasket seems to be fine...no tears or cracks. I mean I've used it quite a bit, maybe the rubber gets ruined after a few dozen cooks. I should go in and get a refund..I've only had the thing for a few months.

A lot of the - inexpensive ones with seals do that. They have to build up enough heat / steam / pressure to push the seals closed, before they stop hissing, pissing & blowing.... except for the rocker weight.

Yeah, I really need to get a good pressure cooker...I'm sick of these rubber gaskets. Better to spend $500 bucks on a good pressure cooker than will last 20 years than $150 bucks on one that will last six months (I haven't even had mine this long). Is Mirro a bad brand? I just bought the biggest one they had at the store.

For the Canadians, is there anywhere I can get an All American Pressure Cooker in Canada? I prefer to get my stuff in person, the exchange rate with the States isn't great and shipping costs can be pretty high when ordering from an American merchant.

Thanks guys, always appreciated.
