Pressure Cooker
    #5314304 - 02/18/06 07:01 PM (18 years, 1 month ago)

My pressure cooker gasket is leaking. I need to pressure cook some things tonight. What can I do to fix this? There is no visible damage on the gasket. I have heard putting vaseline on it will work. I've done that once and it worked. I can't get it to work this time. I am soaking it in vegetable oil right now. Anything else?

I don't know, but gaskets are a bitch to mess with.

Sounds like you need to up grade

Flour and water paste is a trick I have seen for sealing up pipes.
Put it on, let it dry, PC.  Who knows, might work

OK heres what you can do use hotpads and squeeze the lid to the base and hold it this allows pressure to build and push against the gasket which is "V" shaped on the inside edge, this may take up to a minute after the weight is put on maybe a bit longer. This works most times also tip, Sometimes rotating the lid 180 degrees will allow the lid to seal much better, once this position is found mark the lid and the base with a drop of bright red nail polish or something so you don't forget. FYI these tips have help more than a few friends throughout the years.
Remember once you have steam pouring out the vent let it vent for a minute or two this rids the PC of dry pockets, this is important because dry sterilization is much less efficient than wet sterilization. GL

Yep oven mitts. Many gaskets are V shaped on the inner edge but more importantly is holding the cover to the base.
