i dont really want to freeze the stuff since itll be used within two weeks. do you think that slightly damp casing soil would contaminate in that period of time? maybe i can just put it back in the oven until all of the moisture is gone.

friend, casing is one thing you do not want to take chances with...to go thru all that work & expectation, only to end up w/ a contaminated casing will seriously piss you off, trust me...just wait till you are ready to case & mix everything up then...

buddy, i am going to washington dc for the imf/world bank protest. ill be there for at least ten days (maybe more if im still in jail). i am leaving my cased and soon to be pinning trays in the hands of an unexperienced friend. i want to make this as easy as possible for him so ive made the casing soil, that hell need to fill in the open spots left by harvested mushrooms, ahead of time. in the past i have always made up the casing soil right before using it but in this situation i cant do that. does that make sense now?
i also cant freeze it because my friend lives in a co-op and their freezer is fucking disgusting. i will just pasteurize it until the stuff is totally dry and then tell him to add water and h2o2 right before use.
thank you everyone for helping me come to the obvious conclusion - i probably would have fucked things up otherwise.
-daniel.

I acualy mix large batches of 50/50 casing soil and sterilize in used filter patch spaw bags with no troble at all as far as contamination is concerned. It would be impractical for me to mix my casings proir to using them, so I found it easer this way. However in the future I will be using jiffy mix (as soon as I run out of all of my seprate ingredeance, and might consider buying an additional pressure cooker and sterilize my casings along side of my spawn.
