casing soil...

went to walmart today and i thought i was going to get some jiffy mix, but they didnt have any. they didnt have hardly anything in the garden section. where else can i get jiffy mix? i think someone said home depot but i thought jiffy mix was only at walmart. So i took a trip to fred myers and they had a mix what they call "starting mix" its peat moss, vermiculite, perlite and lime. the brand is whitney farms. this should work well right? anyother sugestions?

that should work fine. I was looking for Jiffy mix but they had the stuff called potting soil plus. same stuff but without the perlite, shouldn't hurt.

Most potting soils will work from what I have heard. The name brand really doesnt matter. i use StaGreen. Has composted forest products, peat, verm, and some lime to adjust the ph. Works wonders. Just use your head and I am sure you'll figure it out :)

My friend's first two casings, he used the potting soil plus (unsterilized) and had extremely good results considering it was his first time ever growing. Is it normal for casing soil to feel charred and smell bad after being sterilzed in the microwave for 10 minutes?? It's supposed to be covered right?

most (non-liquid) things come out charred from the microwave after 10 minutes. assuming the microwave is on that is.
