I think what is happening in Haiti is absolutely terrible. But, I know as soon as we help these people it's just going to go straight down the shitter again.

To begin to understand, you need to ask what "help" constitutes, and if things inevitably "go straight down the shitter", you need to ask why.

Because Haiti is a shithole?

We've helped them countless times and it ends up the same

I still feel bad for the disaster, but the situation in Haiti isn't exactly "decent" either even WITHOUT the disaster..

it's a logical fallacy to assume that poverty is the root of crime
especially when we know that the wealthy are also capable and given that
firearms sales have more than doubled when jobs were being lost we have a
secondary reason as to why crime has decreased

Its terrible, there's no question.  You don't feel bad because you can't relate, they are different from us. Its always hard to genuinely feel bad for people so far away, that speak a different language and look different. Its human nature.  But its a humanitarian thing.. if we dont help now, there would be hell to pay in the form of disease and an unstable government in our hemisphere.

I think most black people just can't get their shit together.

It's not just Haiti, every country that consists of a black majority seems to be in a constant state of civil war and famine.

It's a mother fucking REALLY POOR country. THEY NEED HELP

If your hand was chopped off and the doctors were ALL TOO BUSY what the FUCK would you do?

Because there are people seriously suffering out there RIGHT NOW. Can you imagine that?

All their hospitals have to be more than full right now. So many people aren't even getting taken care of

Seriously dude.

I have some friends from Haiti that go visit family every year down there. It is poor and it is sad. I mean, they practically go to war over a bowl of rice.

My mom send a 5k check. Like $5 000 is gonna do anything but she was hoping that it' help at least a few children or something.

I guess maybe I should write a check too,  I enjoy donating to charities and all. It feels nice to know you're helping others in need.

I wish I could fix what happened there but unfortunately I can't :frown:

I'm not sure what you're getting at. Like I said "A political  assassination has far more impact on the destiny of the country than say, a mugging". I don't see how "qualifying as in the majority" bares any relevance. You also ask, "is a coup illegal if it's successful?" Well, I guess it depends what you mean by "legal". Sure, if you take over the legal system and rewrite any constitution, sure, it's "legal", but by that standard, Hitler's takeover of Germany was "legal". Hell, he was even elected.

The AIDS rate in Haiti is actually lower than most of the Caribbean. Much lower than Jamaica, for example. I'm not sure why, but not a lot of tourism lately (lol), and the culture is quite socially conservative, especially regarding homosexuality.

Most of the time the loss of life saddens me.  At the same time though, it seems like we've totally fucked natural selection and all the shit-apes are just breeding like roaches.

We could use a meteor landing in the Middle East or something.  I want to see trees when I'm 80.

recently the rate has dropped, that's primarily due to rural areas,
education and less promiscuity, the rate is still far higher than
that of Jamaica

With 1.5 percent of the adult population estimated to be HIV-positive and no significant change over the last five years, Jamaica appears to have stabilized its HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Quote:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HIV/AIDS_in_Haiti
Haiti is the Caribbean country most affected by HIV/AIDS. The epidemic is generalized and fueled by endemic poverty and high illiteracy rates. By the end of 2005, the national HIV prevalence among adults aged 15 to 49 was 3.8 percent[1] but has since decreased to a mere 2.2 percent by the end of 2008 due to effective HIV/AIDS education programs, and increased standard of medical treatment.

It puts reality in check very fast when I sit here all cozy and see dump trucks filling mass graves on CNN.  Its all so fragile, life in general.  Crazy just how fast something so terrible and horrible can happen.  I cant even imagine what its like to be there right now.  Lots of hard times to come for the residents of the affected area.

Hmm, you're right, although I'm not sure I'd say that the rate in Haiti is "far" higher than Jamaica. The Bahamas was highest by about 27%!! Who'd a thought?
