MONOTUB SUBSTRATE QUESTION. I Need some help

okay...gonna do a monotub tek seems really cool. gonna use 50/50 (verm & peat moss). will it make a difference if it's the "miracle grow" peat moss to mix with??? and should i put this substrate at field capacity or just not add any water to it whatsoever?

you don.t really need to put a casing layer on a mono

dont use MGMC unless you get the fertilizer out!. go with jiffy miz it is just 50/50 without the fertilizer

where do i get this jiffy Mix????? and do i put it at field capacity when in the rubbermaid container or keep it dry i want the whole chunk to turn white.

What kind of sub are you using, no matter what the sub it needs to be pasteurized, some subs and or teks you can reach  Field capacity through pasteurization and some you need to bring it to field capacity first then pasteurize, so depends on your sub and tek as to when you hydrate/pasteurize both will need to be done properly :smile: I personally use hpoo/straw/verm for substrate bring to Field capacity load into turkey bags and pasteurize in the oven, usually takes 3-4 hrs to reach a internal temp of 165 F. for one hour.

bulk casing. i got 6 nice big ecuadorian cakes. to put it short im gonna put prolly like 6 quarts of the 50/50 on the bottom and put chunks of the mycelium across that surface then like 10 quarts of 50/50 on top of that i want it to spread across and the whole thing turns white. i can manage from that point. lol. so field capacity or dry???

way off you dont use a caseiing for bulk. you spawn the colonized jars to coir, poo, or straw then let that colonize then you case or dont case its up to you

where do you see coir sounds like he's casing cakes, but to OP I would suggest getting some kind of bulk sub and spawning your cakes to that, then you don't even need a casing layer.

that is a mono tub there is lots of teks here but its really simple.
get a tub and cut holes in all sides. mix the spawn with the pasterized bulk (coir or poo is what most use) then put in a trash bag to keep air out so it wont pin early. when it is all white case if you wan but you dont have to. if you case put back into the bag a few days. then put under a window or get a 65000k light for 12on 12 off in 2-3 weeks
