No thats the opposite of what you want to do.

Rewarding a dog for barking by letting him in or giving him what he wants will cause him to bark a lot more in the long term.

Slapping him also sends the wrong message.

What you want to do is do something he doesn't like.  A really effective thing is to put some coins in a plastic jar, and shake that at the dog when he barks.  Dogs really really hate that, and if you shake it immediately every time he barks/pees/bites/etc, he will get the message real quick, without reinforcing negative behaviors.

20 years ago dog trainers would agree with you, but these days they have found ways of dealing with dogs that are much more effective.
