Respecting and Conforming to other Peoples' Morality
    #11518220 -

Is there any point whatsoever in doing this? Will doing this necessarily increase the quality of your life? :strokebeard:

I guess it would depend on the people and their system, though in general it seems to have a lot to do with "getting along". These days to a large extent you can pick your people and system. It seems that in the past, there were fewer systems available to the common person, and they had fewer differences.

True, this would be hard to do, but to what extent is one to conform to a culture?

I personally am only willing to conform to another culture to the extent that I'm kept out of jail and off the executioner's block.

I would assume on the broader spectrum, yes, otherwise we wouldn't see this phenomenon on the scale that we do. On the more finite side of things, no. Situations will never consistently demand that we behave in a manner exactly as those demonstrated during prior circumstances. This is evident in Darwins Theory of Evolution (I don't consider it a theory).

Yes, i see a point in doing this. Camouflage if for no other reason. I believe the ancient Chinese were the ones to say (rough quote), "The nail which stands up gets hammered down."

First define quality.

Then define your life.

From Quality of life - Wikipedia:
Quote:
The term quality of life is used to evaluate the general well-being of individuals and societies. The term is used in a wide range of contexts, including the fields of international development, healthcare, and political science. Quality of life should not be confused with the concept of standard of living, which is based primarily on income. Instead, standard indicators of the quality of life include not only wealth and employment, but also the built environment, physical and mental health, education, recreation and leisure time, and social belonging.

According to ecological economist Robert Costanza: While Quality of Life (QOL) has long been an explicit or implicit policy goal, adequate definition and measurement have been elusive. Diverse "objective" and "subjective" indicators across a range of disciplines and scales, and recent work on subjective well-being (SWB) surveys and the psychology of happiness have spurred renewed interest..

Also frequently related are concepts such as freedom, human rights, and happiness. However, since happiness is subjective and hard to measure, other measures are generally given priority. It has also been shown that happiness, as much as it can be measured, does not necessarily increase correspondingly with the comfort that results from increasing income. As a result, quality of life should not be taken to be a measure of happiness.

But to what extent must one conform to some sort of model of behavior? Wouldn't it be better for everyone if they could just be their natural selves? :yesnod2:

dude, if this is about sleeping with underage girls, please just get it into your head -

you can do whtvr the fuck you want with underage girls, but

if you get caught, you will be raped in jail

anyone can take a risk at doing things that society condemns... the reason there is law and punishment is so that people have great reason to not do that.

stop trying to justify your immoral acts. following the law is not directly about living a good life, it is about avoiding having a crap life.

generally, killing other people will result in a bad life because of guilt. if you were a sociopath, then obviously there would be no issue to an individual with killing someone else. except, that they may get caught.

if you think you can get away with your socially condemnedbehavior, go ahead. mostly everoyne on this website takes drugs and avoids getting arrested. but you know, its no the same sleeping with young girls.

how will you stop them feeling guilty, letting slip that they slept with you?

you gonna threaten them with violence or something??

have you really thought the practicalities of this through? or are you still a virgin trying to understand their sexual attraction towards teeny boppers?

anyway if this has nothing to do with sleeping with underage girls then go ahead and develop this thread with some examples
