recycling a tub after trich?
    #11321429 - 10/25/09 11:46 PM (8 years, 29 days ago)

I can not find a clear answer on this yet.  Can a tub be used again after trich?  I know that some molds can grow into porous plastics, but will trich do this?  If the tubs are re-usable, what do I need to do to clean them?  Ever since trich hit one of my tubs I have not had a complete successful grow since.  I expect my place was completely infested but have since moved to a new place with no carpeting at all and have sealed an empty room in plastic drop cloth... so, what must I do to clean these things other than good ol' vinegar and bleach?

I would give it a nice bleach rinse and then wipe it down with alcohol.  Set it aside until you are ready to use it again, then wipe it down before using it of course.

... if you've gone so far as to get a new room and all... why waste the materials and chance it by using the same tub?  They golden?  I paid $3 for my small's, $5 for my medium, and $12 for a 106qt tub... Dont have the spare change to kick it for a good new box for the nice clean new room...  hold off on the hobby i'd say.  Obv not in a rush (dont have bulk sitting around; doesnt seem like you have a mass of jars ready to spawn), so toss it; re clean whatever was in the room; clean the room; and start fresh.

take it outside, rinse it well with the hose

then bring it inside and dry it with several clean paper towels.

then spray it with lysol and wipe it out with several clean paper towels

after that it should be good..

bleach at about 1:4 ratio with water. Let them soak then drain rinse and wipe out with alchol. I always wash with the hottest water I can.

I like the cleaning idea.  I spent 18$ a piece on these stack n view tubs.  My growing in the back room of a garage stacked with boxes didn't help my process I'm sure.  Now that I've got a properly sealed work area and a small desktop hepa air filter I hope to see a bit better success.  If not, just gonna have to start an outdoor bed

I have cleaned them in the past with success.  I just went outside opened it up, smashed like a cup of straight bleach into it, lid back on, shake the hell out of it then let it sit for about 20min and came back to hose it all out.

Figured letting it sit would give it time for all those lovely toxic bubbles to go to work…

dish soap and water should work fine to clean the tub.

I would empty the contents outside first though, you don't want to risk the chances of spreading spores indoors.

Dude just clean it. You ain't need to be wasteful and buy a new tub every time you need one. Your mama didn't teach you that way. It ain't even a thing.

I did. I read the entire thread, and then added my input. No need to get butt-hurt (not even sure why you're apparently upset.)

Anyway, im just hangin on here to see some big pink buffs...
