Mt. Pisgah Arboretum Mushroom Festival
    #11315151 - 10/24/09 11:59 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

I am posting this so I will commit to return with beautiful photos. I attended this festival apparently a day early. I walked around while there were groups of volunteers identifying mushrooms and placing on their identifying notecards. I was amazed how easily they did it while you could hear some old farts arguing about sub categories in latin names.
I took a ton of pictures today but my camera died. I would have taken more but I guess the actual festival starts tomorrow so I walked around the park and found mushrooms that they did not have and they will be identified and placed for display tomorrow. Two extremely unique ones I will have to get photos of tomorrow when they are identified and displayed.
One the lady mentioned one as an earth star and the other one she mumbled something to one guy and he scurried off with it. It was neon orangish and you could almost see through the mushroom. Quite fascinating!

I have even more. It's actually quite funny they had some azurescens on display but unlike other mushrooms that you could pick up these were enclosed in a jar and the jar was duct taped to the display. I'm guessing there's a historical reasoning behind this lol

For the psilocybes, apparently they only put very small specimens in a jar and tape it down every year.  The jar today was actually labeled cyanescens, but it is hard to tell the difference from azurescens when they are that small anyway.

Here are some pics that I took today - sorry, I didn't get the labels in all of them.
