I'm not denying something roughly around those lines happened but the idea that native people are in harmony with the earth and wise because they are one with nature is silly. There has been this revival of new age medicine and spirituality based on "native traditions." The fact is many native cultures are as fucked up as western ones.

When we think of the African slave trade we think of white men on ships coming and capturing the poor black natives and shipping them away. In reality white traders captured almost no slaves, the black natives went on raiding parties and enslaved other tribes, and they had been doing that for hundreds of years before white traders were there.

There has been talk about native cultures in central America and how they are peaceful and in tune with nature etc. The reality is their ancestors the Mayans and Aztecs routinely massacred whole populations, especially the Aztecs who were notorious for capturing villages then sacrificing them to the sun god.

Sorry if that was too long a read I just needed to rant about this strange and uniquely western socio-masochism.

I'm not a primitive culture loving hippie, I just acknowledge those who came before. Collective knowledge is a wonderful thing, but you seem to over look the trials of those who came before, that is simply absurd.

I don't accept the notion that all cultures are equal. I would not like to live in Africa for instance.

Those who came before? Like who? I acknowledge the Founding Fathers but I certainly don't acknowledge any contributions Native Americans made simply becuase, well, they didn't make any significant ones that effect the quality of my life at all. Go figure.
