Re: why does the shroomery hate the US Government? [Re: ]
    #3106050 -

its not just about the drugs man

it's also about the amount of time people spend in jail for non violent crimes, longer than those that say do grand theft auto.

drugs carry with them, manidtory minimum sentences, and other crimes of people hurting other poeple don't.

how about there's money to be made in imprisoning people.

how about we have the highest pirson population in the world, more than "communist" china?

"let me ask you this, if the US government sucks, why don't you leave, go to say, Canada, the Netherlands, or somewhere where you won't be "persecuted" "

illogical statement. can you think of a refutation of your own?

"again i say imprisonment for marijuana isn't right, but its the way it is."

so by that very logic, we should accept anything that isn't right?

especially when it concerns our freedoms?

looks at it this way, all the money we spend on the war on drugs and terror, could instead help the many people in poverty. help feed, cloth and shelter people. (not in this country either)

yes..bettering the world..not just ourselves, but other people.

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

Someone needs to read the Bill Of Rights [Re: ]
    #3106054 -

Quote:
Some Dudes In Wigs said:Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The whole idea of this government is to be critical of the negative things people try to use it for. By being able to air our grievances against what a few really bad people have done, we are actually using the government in the way it was intended.

Democracy 101: Participation is key!

In other words, it's not that we're against the government, we're against the misuse of it, and otherwise, it's just a monarchy.

but people don't participate, they instead complain. "fucking pigs", or "bastards" and sound like 19 year olds that live in their parent't basement. sorry, but thats the way it sounds here.

its not illogical to say leave, if you don't like the drug laws. there are a few more hospitable countries for drug users. why don't they leave then?

why were your friends and family growing a crop? to fight the war on drugs, or for something else? perhaps, profit? more than likely. if it was for personal supply, i know that one or two plants will suffice for an entire family of smokers. nobody goes to jail for one or two plants (except for oklahoma- but you'd be a fool to do anything in the bible belt anyway).

jono, while this is slightly off topic ;
http://www.panix.com/~clays/Una/

it describes very well i think, a large part of the human functions, from a psychoanalytical perspective.

im glad you mentioned the metaphor of the child rebelling against the parent.

that is something what its like.
i feel, that i, and the rest of humanity are outgrowing the boundries of our parents(the govt).
and just as a parent should not be too overprotective of their child, as to not shelter them completely from reality, thus negating the childs ability to deal with reality.
a govt should not be overprotective of its populace.

Growing plants of any number is a federal offense in some states, which means you can lose your right to vote as well as go to jail. A lot of people get locked up for just personal supply.

When someone here calls someone a "fucking pig" or a "bastard", its a way of venting anger at a situation which we all feel helpless about. Many people here actively participate in reforming drug laws, it's just difficult when you're ignored by the media even when you write scientific information with insightful commentary, while the other side gets published for just talking misinformation and parinoia.

It's not as simple as just leaving a place where you live simply to escape drug laws. Many people have lives here, including family and a career, so to just ditch them for drugs would be irrational and self-centered, no? Wouldn't you feel bad if your sister left to another country for cocaine?

In other words, some people love what their country can be, so much, that they are willing to stay and fight to change what they see is wrong. That's what patriotism is. Nationalism is simply accepting what the government in place says is right and defending it without question.

the unabomber's manifesto. a skewed, though real, read. 5 shrooms to that. reminds me of logan's run

i do illegal things.

i know they're illegal. i don't blame the government for this. i do them, knowing that i could be arrested for them. i don't like it, but i accept it.

people fail to accept the facts as they are, instead they blame an entity that is easily accessible to critisize. one has to take responsibility for themselves. critisizing the government is your right, but when you're reasons for critisizing the government lie in the reality of just wanting to "get fucked up" then you need a stern dose of reality.

if you're in a place that imposes such a stiff sentancing on growing a pot plant, why do it? you don't need it to survive. you make a choice. you have to take responsibility for engaging in such a thing.

what exactly is your interpretation of the bill of rights? i'm not saying that those that think our government is crap are wrong, i'm just saying that is a pitifully naive way to look at such a great thing.

Asking the Shroomery why it hates the US government to me, seems comparable to asking the Jews why they hate the Nazis. After all, what have the Nazis done besides give them a place to stay and a steady job? And hey, if they dont like it, they can just leave, right?

I'm glad to see there ARE people who share my views about this. The DEA ruins people's lives for posessing special groups of molecules that they have deemed dangerous, this is what I have trouble going along with.

In high school all the foreign exchange students fucking hated it here. One told me "You guys think you have freedom but you don't know the first thing about it" And its true. We have so many laws, especially here in Utah.

Our Politicians have for sale signs around their neck and do whatever the highest bidder says. I can't even vote for president because my state will go Bush whether I like it or not.

We may have it nice compared to other countries but at what cost? We're polluting the shit out of everything. Exploiting other countries cheap labor. All so we can have our cell phones and eat our McDonalds and drive SUVs.

And always love your country but NEVER trust your government.

what did this foreign exchange student mean, exactly? that we take our freedoms for granted? he or she is probably right. as for our laws, what the fuck are you implying, that we are not free? how priviliged are you exactly? i'm priviliged as all hell, personally. i'm by no means rich, i live paycheck to paycheck. but i'm free as a motherfucker.

i believe that we live in the greatest country in the world. sure, nothing is perfect. but our country strives to ensure that everyone has their voice heard. those people that say our government is "evil" or "dranconian" are in denial of the facts.

don't compare our country to the Nazi treatment of the Jews. thats ridiculous, and taken out of context. a shroomerite choses to be a shroomerite, while one who is Jewish is born Jewish (or converts). shroomerites aren't persucuted for there believes, but some are for there (illegal) actions. you cannot compare the holocaust to the imprisonment of any shroomerite.
come on now. be realistic.

right now, you're sitting at a computer, living a priviliged life in the good ole USA.
you're computer cost you what, at least $400?
twice the per capita income of the average person in India, and yet many of us take this for granted.

as for my definition of a "liberal" islamic nation, yes, Eqypt is considered a relatively liberal islamic nation, allowing almost equal rights for women, and minority religions and ethnic groups. compare that to Iran, or the dare i say, the old Iraq.

ever taken an economics class? you'd realize that US policy does not drive other nations into economic ruin. US economic policy is beneficial to humanity. sure, there is greed in our country, but do not get side tracked by that. name one country that we have put in economic ruin? blood has been shed by americans for the sake of americans, and those of other nations as well.

sure, we fuck up from time to time, but our efforts are noble. don't believe it?
