what/who is doing the instructing?  how does it take place?
what is it that induces this perception, and how can we become induced?
so many ways to interpret, so vague and indirect

I can't disagree with anything you said, but I don't understand the defensiveness towards Buddhism. There are many sects of Buddhism, some of which are like you say, but ignoring the sects and just taking the core teachings of the Buddha it is a very... accepting religion.

It does not say you have to be Buddhism. I don't even believe there are rules exactly. They are more so the Buddha's suggestions that help may help one get closer to enlightenment. I don't even believe he ever said you should be enlightened, it just sounds like a novel idea to most people that believe it's real so they seek it.

I'm not sure what you mean? I assume you are asking a followup question towards CapHat's last post, which I read as sarcasm.

Being controlled by an authority that wants to be in charge of your thoughts and actions is not a loving authority.
A loving authority would never want to dictate its ways but would want to bring about a change and help us to be responsible for ourself, for our own thoughts, actions and feelings.

Since you accept the old philosophers i must conclude that only religion receives your rejection.

However, would you deny Buddhist philosophy a chance of finding its place amongst philosophy, while on the other hand you do seem to be impressed by the reasoning's of Plato?

Thats what I mean, "ATHORITY".  And A loving athority? Sounds like Big Brother. But thats whats cool about freedom You can be a slave or not be a slave. I have chosen not to be a slave and make my own religion and be my own authority.

The point is that there is a big difference between what you have understood for yourself and what is being taught. It says that there is an understanding within yourself at some point brought about by the teaching. But that the actual teaching is not to be taken to be that understanding, but the means to it.

Example:
2x4=8 (teaching)
multiplication (understood)

But in this case it is not maths but philosophy on the nature of reality.

Yea exactly "brought forth by the teaching", not by youre innerself  or oneness remember they will keep you away from oneness. haha listen to what is being taught not to your self

Plato made it clear that even though we don't find the answers to our questions, at least we know now not to go about thinking to understand what we don't.

Isn't that a teaching? Does that not 'bring about' a change in perception?

Where to draw the line between manipulation and information?

Read it, it says and I quote "What is meant by the teaching concerning it? It is given in the instructional works and keeps one away from the dualistic notions of being and non-being, of oneness and otherness"

It is given in the instructional works and keeps one away!

You keep it and be "instructioned "

Quoting men who taught king how to rule, And how to control the mind doesnt work for an argument about a topic ment for controlling. Unless talking to slaves, kida like Obama did to every body

Are we not capable of pondering someone else ideas and then distil our own thoughts out of that?
But i do agree that for a majority it is easy to fall into the habit of being herd like sheep.  :whatdoyouthink:

Try to imagine what would happen if you made some religion up your self and punished people for a long time if they did not take it. slowly massaging it in as truth Do this for 2 thousand  years, the people at this point would believe it as you do today.

Formula: 0

C'mon man! It's just a philosophical point about the nature of reality. No-one says you have to shave your head and put on robes, chanting all day and night until you zonk out and accept whatever they tell you.

If you are so interested in oneness then why not review all the different take son it and expand your understanding of it?

But, iit says Bhuddism and that's religion so.....

But i do agree every inch that we should aim for self-reliance of thought and seek unity and harmony in this world. If i get you?!

Math a man made system used for linear thinking? What do you think religion is, a man made system for linear thinking. No most philosophers I have read dont combine the two unless their Astrologists. Which is for the king to hear and read about not for your eyes. Remember their the version for slaves and a version for the higher ups

Yea not any more cuz they already have made a culture out of it. People already believe it to be true. Thats the illusion of freedom
