There are many relevant ideas that apply to the warriors path there, but you must remember that these (Tibetan) Buddhist guys are very traditional and conservative in their own way. We can, of course, learn much from them. That book is a great work worth anyone's time.

"A warrior is a hunter. He calculates everything. That's control. Once his calculations are over, he acts. He lets go. That's abandon. A warrior is not a leaf at the mercy of the wind. No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

He seems to aim this a those who are not buddhists and makes the ideas general in that they apply to any life and not the religious life. The ideas are sound indeed.

That is why the book has value.

Very good article.

M'Lady thanked me for forwarding that link to her, and since I can't get her to post here (like another cool Lady), I'm passing on her thanks to you.

I have yet to make myself read stuff like that. IMHO buddhists use too many words to explain very little.

Don't worry, be happy ... you know.

I guess thats a direct consequence of having time to think. However I can't calm down enough to actually bring myself to listening/reading.

I'll never become a buddhist. It might be a very relevant philosophy, but quite frankly, it bores me to death.

It is actually very easy to read and well presented. Your estimation of the buddhist philosophy indicates that you have not delved into it. It is much richer than don't worry, be happy. I am also not a buddhist, nor will I become one, but I have learned to find teachers where I can.

I just said I wasn't able to delve into it because I didn't find it easy to read. Ah well.

I was just saying that IF you do delve into it you WILL find it easy to read, but your intent must be there. If you are purely uninterested then your intent is not there, and therefore it would be a waste of your time. I was also trying to indicate to you that there a little more there than "Don't worry, be happy". I found it to be a beautifully worded document that left me mentally stimulated.

Indeed, interest is one of the pivitol capacities one must possess to be able to benefit from any teaching.

Thanks Sinbad. I especially appreciate the psychological soundness of Buddhist philosophy. I also appreciate the authors understanding of the western mind and concerns/challenges, and he seems to have some of the street talk down. Also he doesn't get verbose. He's pretty cool. I hope his next incarnation is on my block.

Well his current incarnation is relatively young, so it may be a while. Also consider the possibility that you could both die in a similar time frame, then your spiritual essences may mingle and you end up being born as the same person. How's that for being neighbors!!! A murder suicide may be required...your mileage may vary.

His current incarnation is actually as a westerner, which goes very well with how his karmic inclinations in his previous life.
